406 HDi Stop Warning
Hi
I have a problem just occurred - Stop warning on dash when key off - Engine starts and runs great but no indicators, fuel gauge, temp, tacho or speedo working. I get a constant beep out of the radio. Every thing else is ok. I'm thinking that there is a relay somewhere that has failed.
All fuses seem ok, OBD 2 diagnostic shows a P00C8 code but states it as unknown. Can anyone help on this one please?

Hello. Sorry to say this but I think your BSI's fried. Try a reset, have a look at this thread first.

Hi Thanks for your reply - Pardon my ignorence but what is a "BSI" I have run through the sequence a couple of times as accurate as I can but made no difference.
Re: 406 HDi Stop Warning
Body Systems Interface if memory serves. It's an expensive black box that D9s have which likes to go wrong. It controls things like the lights and wing mirrors I think
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Actually, it's something like Boîte de System Electronique, it controls lights, indicators, windscreen wipers, interior lighting, audio, the dashboard, trip computer, multifunction display, warnings, air con, I think it has links to the ABS and engine management too...
Still thinking about this, the dash does have its own ecu so I'm wondering if it's this. Not sure about the beeping though. Is there anything coming up on the display? Do you get any warning lights at all??

Re: 406 HDi Stop Warning
Hi you guys
I found that the Air con is off as well, the oddometer and trip showing zeros. When engine running the only thing showing is the Mill light and I can't clear it with the scanner. I note that the readings are active from the ECU since I can see the RPM and speed - it has not affected the performance - this baby flys. I've had the clock out and checked all connections and as many fuses I can find - under bonnet and under the console. Is this B thingy the box under the fuses and over the pedals with a pile of wires going in?

That's the one. Maybe it's worth talking to these people.

That would make it BSEsteve_earwig wrote:Actually, it's something like Boîte de System Electronique

Re: 406 HDi Stop Warning
I gather it really depends on what part's gone south. Also, the BSI isn't sealed or anything and I found a picture of the inside of one that had gone wrong and it looked like it had suffered from condensation (my air con hasn't been turned off since!).
Still, fingers crossed. Did you pull the carpets up yet?

Hi
I'll keep on digging until I find the gremlin - take the BSI apart and test every circuit log my findings and let you know the result - any snippets of info just shortens the time. One day these people who put them together will do a proper self diagnostics module, meanwhile us humble hardworking, grubby fingered technicians will have to plod 0n.

Hi
Well this BSI has got BBA baffled - they had a car in with exactly the same symptoms to try and fix because they could not fathom the problem with the Unit out. They eventually had to give up with all their expertise and knowhow. Guess I'll have to get one from Peugeot.

Re: 406 HDi Stop Warning
Hi
Well I spoke to the local Dealer who suprisingly was very helpful - they also said to get the carpets up because some fool had decided to route the
cables and connectors right where a drivers heel would go and they get a lot of chewed up cables and corrosion with water getting in.
By the way from my research I discovered some interesting things about the BSI. The damb thing has to be put to sleep before one can get in there to make any changes hence the 3 min wait after shutting the door, then to waken it up gently so it doesn't wet its pants you turn on the lights then the ignition when trying to reset. Also changing a battery used to be a routine job - not any more - if you don't follow a careful set procedure the BSI can throw a tantrum and lock you out or screw up your radio. By and large most of what they are trying is necessary because
the network protocol (CAN BUS) demands an interface for all the gizzmos. As with the fancy dual mass flywheel they fit that break before they wear out - I did mine a few weeks ago - you don't want to know what that entailed.

Re: 406 HDi Stop Warning
Thanks for the feedback, I get the need for reducing the kilometers of wire in a car (especially with the rising price of copper), I just wish they'd used something a little less, well, fragile, and maybe sealed it against the elements.

Having just changed my battery my stereo was well and truely screwed for the next day - repeatedly losing it's Bass/Treble settings as if it's core power supply was being turned off!Longintooth wrote:Also changing a battery used to be a routine job - not any more - if you don't follow a careful set procedure the BSI can..... screw up your radio
