NUMBER PLATE HAS BEEN CLONED HELP!!!
Hi to everyone that knows me and does not. There is always usefull info here so i thought i would ask? One of my friends at work has just received a letter stating that he was caught speeding by a camera doing 37mph in a 30mph. He does not live in this area leicestershire its around an hours drive for him to get there i would say. It states at 616am on the morning of thursday the 10th of July he was speeding. Like he said he was in work that day which he was but started at 8am. And would would he be doing there? I said his number plate has been cloned what will he have to do? He has wripped the paper up and discarded as he knows it was not him. Legally how can he prove otherwise? He has been shopping over there in the town centre a few weeks back but that was a week end. Any help much appreciated Rappy

I'd say he should ask to see the photos and make sure he's got a watertight alibi!

I think I'd be chugging up to the nearest cop shop round about now. Shame he binned the paperwork, if it really is a clone then it won't be the last he hears of it.

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: NUMBER PLATE HAS BEEN CLONED HELP!!!
Hi just a quick up date!!!!
Having spoke to a good friend who was in a simular position last year he stated you should just demand to see the photo's to prove it was you driving.
If they cant prove it was you they have no case and drop it.
Is this true? I would imagine that is deception if you were speeding? Or as my friends case justice as he was not over there.
Or is it just a loop hole in the law? As 2 years ago i just signed the form previous and sent it off for my 3 points and a £50 fine.
Do they need photographic evidence?

Re: NUMBER PLATE HAS BEEN CLONED HELP!!!
I think you're mate's kinda missing the point here Rappy. Sure he's absolutely got to demand to see the pics to absolve him of this particular offence (maybe as simple as the plate having been misread by the authorities
), but if I'm reading you correctly there's possibly another car out there that's displaying your mate's number plates..... and he's known this for how long? and done fek-all about it
? What if this car is involved in a hit and run accident or a violent crime of some sort? Your mate might find the boys from CID kicking his front door down in the middle of the night....
If your mate really suspects that his car has been cloned he need to get his arse down the police station and report this fact immediately if not sooner, this is far FAR bigger than an SP30
The fact that he doesn't seem concerned about this makes me think there's somehting else going on.... are you sure he's not just fishing for ways to get off the ticket?

Re: NUMBER PLATE HAS BEEN CLONED HELP!!!
I will be honest i have been his boss for the last 3 years and seems very trustworthy if not a little foolish at times like now
i agree dairees.
He should of just reported it to the police.
Or if what my friend has told me today they need proof without it you can get off.
Me personally if i was there would say yes i was speeding send it off collect 3 points a small fine and be done with it. But he insists he was not there!
Mmmmm gives me food for thought though in future do i just ask to see photographic evidence? then send it off? I would imagine if everyone is doing the same they would get more points and a bigger fine as they are just delaying the obvious!! You were driving!

Re: NUMBER PLATE HAS BEEN CLONED HELP!!!
If there's more than one person person insured on the car (or if you suspect that it isn't your car) then there's nowt wrong at all with asking for the photo. It happened once where I used to work, we got an SP30 through for a pool car, of course we keep records of who's got the pool cars but it still wasn't clear who had it at that exact time, so we requested the photo. The photo duely arrived and there was Mr Parsons clear as day, banged to rights.
I still think the ticket isn't the biggest issue in your mates case though, if he genuinely suspects that there's a clone of his car on the road he really needs to inform the police urgently.
