Engine Diagnostics Warning Light

Post by Meldrew »

The amber engine diagnostic light came on permanently today on my 1999 2.0 HDI.
Haynes manual says fault could be emission control system. :(

I need the car to get to work, and it is still running faultlessly, can anyone advise of the possible problem and whether I am ok using it for a further 200 miles, before I can get to a
garage, as I have no alternative means of transport an work 50 miles away from home.

Hi, I believe that the short answer is it could be something or nothing. The garage will have a code reader which might say what the problem was or is. Regards, Springnuts

Usually critical faults will result in the STOP light coming on, so you should be ok until you can get a fault code reader on it
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

My engine light's been on for about 12 weeks now

If it drives well then just ignore it! my money's on the throttle position sensor
