Paralympics and the weekend t@ssp@ts

Post by Nicodemus »

Been watching the beeb paralympics cover. Was on day shift today, so had luxury of evening telly.

I've been in tears watching these geezers and wimmin... Tears of pride, a degree of guilt I s'pose for past ignorance and awe at the personal mountains some have climbed... Do we deserve these gutsy people and the personal courage and determination they show? I hope so. [Insert Deity of your choice] I hope so.

How come we don't better reward and support the great courage shown by people who have struggled against such immense problems not of their own making :x

And then tomorrow night and sat night I get to ferry the ignorant, the stupid, the personally inadequate and the plain arrogant to and fro from town, pissed most of the time. If I have to use my counselling training again to calm one of these selfish idiots I swear I'll fecking crash the car. Many of them staggeringly arseholed at 7pm when we take them in 'cos it's cheaper. The bastard fuckwits. I'm so not in the mood for their trivial, patronising and inadequate bullshit. I'm afraid I may get into a tad of trouble tomoz and sat. In fact it looks quite likely at the moment given my current mood. Keep an eye on A and E chaps, bandits at 12 oclock, a load of Fokkers...

Punter:"Hey what's this crap, got any decent music gorg?" (I've probably got Annie Lennox, Pretenders, Stranglers, Nina Simone or Steely Dan on stereo). They reach drunkenly for stereo controls, I kill them. Sadly it won't be justifiable. The Judge says, "Ah, if only it had been Aretha Franklin..." :P

Hey Supa... I think you are very close to cut your losses point... Speaking from personal experience, don't let it slide by!

I'm usually a silent passenger (bar a couple of chatty drivers who've carted me around for years), especially when drunk because if I need a taxi I'll almost certainly have a kebab meat & chips in my hands and be dying to get home and eat/finish it :cheesy:

Of course that's not the case if I get in a 406/xantia when pissed up - just try to stop me talking about the car ;)

I wish teamy. I wish... 8)

Super power weekend at Bure Valley Railway (and I'm qualified to drive and fire 24), Battle of the Atlantics (qualified again - I've over 25 years experience driving and firing steam engines) at Kirklees railway... Thrashing Flier or Belle up the hill at Kirklees. A real zen juggle of firing, watering and driving. Dismay when not right, euphoric when done professionally and properly.

Nah. I need the money, got to do what I got to do. And yes, I'm persuading and assuring myself... :P

You won't get into my ol'girl with a 'bab unless it's well wrapped mucker... :cheesy:

Had a right to and fro' w/e before last with someone who felt that a glass of lager, a glass of vodka and tonic and a big sweaty kebab without wrapping were quite acceptable in my car. He was bigger than me (me average 5' 10" 12 stone). So were his mates.

I persuaded them by saying that if they insisted then they should go get another taxi. "But no," they sayeth. "You guys are unto the cheapest buggers we findeth." "Yes," I respondeth. "So don't soil my bleeding motor or it'll cost you 60 quid, gimme your wallets now just in case." They declined surprisingly enough.

I sheperded them over to another firms' car who I knew didn't give a monkeys (percentage driver). And shortly thereafter swanned off on a town centre way out into countryside job for over 35 quid. Thank you [deity of your choice], I thought. Secretly thinking, bugger that's this months good fortune used up.

Bugger. Think I may need to get back on the ol' fluoxitine... Bastard stuff.

Ne'er mind worse things happen at sea. And who the hell thought that saying up! True in some ways I suppose, but doesn't it sound trite...

ttfn each and all

I always assumed taxi'ing should be fairly straight forward. How wrong was I :?

Mind you the last time I taxied to and from town was in the early 90's when everyone was happy. I used to get drunk but would sit cheerfully asking if the driver had "been busy?" or "what's that button there do?" etc. :)

I suppose today's young scrotes, what with their complete lack of "respeck", just see the taxi as their personal slave to whom they can freely dish out their unreasonable requests :|

Aren't people horrible these days? :(

It is straightforward most of the time welly.

And I shouldn't get so clocked up about the few arses who complicate matters. I usually watch my responses to passengers quite carefully, especially on the pissed up jobs, since I have found out the hard way how very touchy some can be.

I was profoundly affected by the paralympics on telly and that in turn loosened my self discipline.

The fact is, I'm not going to change these peeps, to do this job I have to accept that and deal with it. Mind, tis nice to vent a bit... :)

So, apologies all round for the ranting...

Oh and that button on the dash? Ejector seat or 22kv seat electrification option

Nowt wrong with Prozac, I did very well on it, although other people I know didn't (possible side effect: depression  )

Relax with the thought that these bumholes are probably shortening their life spans with their self-abuse. Failing that, put some earplugs in (or size them up before they have a chance to get in and speed off if they don't make the grade).

Having spent a while in a wheelchair I think I have a better idea than I had of the sort of things disabled people have to cope with, not just their own disabilities, but with society's general indifference or even prejudice. For me, to overcome their disabilities and lead a relatively normal life dispite all obsticles, these people are amazing. Paralympians? Superhuman.

Doctor to Dai while handing over prescription for Fluoxitine: "It'll get worse before it gets better mind, take a fortnight off work and remove any sharp objects from your vicinity". Cheers Doc!
Day 7, Helped my brother move house, spent the day driving a rented van around South Wales in atrocious weather, mostly alone, grey skies, black mood. "Shall I brake for that corner? Suppose I'd better!"
Day 14, it was like someone switched the lights back on after 6 months of darkess.

Neil and I both know a guy (an ex teacher of ours) who took his own life shortly after starting a course of anti-depressants.

Fluoxitine? No problem, but just look after yourself for the first 2 weeks.

Good luck with the tosspots taxi!
