Caliper spring on rear brak pads

Hi all i have a 406 hdi 110 2000 and yesterday changed the rear discs and pads however on each side the spring was fitted slightly differently one side it the spring wasin the middle of the pads and one the other side of the car the pad spring was on the inside of one pad and the outer side of the other can anyone tell me how it should be fitted

That kind of sounds right, spring in front of one pad but behind the other. The pictures in Haynes show them to the inner (i.e. the side towards the middle of the car) side of the pads.

I'm a frayed knot. There's a few in Haynes (hint hint). No scanner here and I can't be bothered to jack my car up and take a wheel off just now, sorry, the jack tends to sink into mud here...

It's a long time since I touched (any of) my rear pads but looking at the pics this is how it goes: As you push the pin in from the back, it goes through the calliper, through the loop in the spring, through the pad, then through the other side of the spring, through the outer pad and finally into the other side of the calliper. The open ends of the spring should face down and the bar between the two arms of the spring rests on the pads. Don't forget the R-clips!

Ahhh right now i get what you mean ok thats great thats how it was on one side but both loops were on the inner side on the other wheel i will have to correct it then thanks for that though
