New guy.
Hey folks. My names Roy. I'm new to the OC.
It seems that I have unwillingly inherited a 1.8 LX 406. It was my late Dad's car and he loved it. My Mum has decided to keep it and sell her 306 Cabriolet for obvious sentimental reasons.
This leaves me with the upkeep of the car. I won't allow her to take the car to Peugeot for every little hiccup which means I need to learn all about it. So far I've had to do both front shocks, exhaust mid pipe and other small jobs.
I am a DIY guy when it comes to cars but I'm used to mine (Mk1 Mazda MX-5) but a pug is a whole new adventure, so far involving a whole lot of swearing!!! Learning as I go.

Re: New guy.
Hello fella!
Well, luckily it's a Petrol so thats 95% of your troubles gone to start with
Drop links come up a fair bit (as most cars now) and the old hesitation/miss-fire sometimes is covered by a FAQ thread on here by James and that looks easy for a DIY'er to do himself.
The handbrake is poor but there's not much you can do other than replace all the cables, shoes, drums etc. so as long as it passes the MOT we just accept it.
If you tell us the age of car we can be a bit more model specific for you but generlly the 1.8 has no real problems.

Re: New guy.
Hey thanks for the warm welcome guys!
I feel all mushy inside!
It's a red k reg. I have to admit, it's a love hate thing. I'm used to my car which weighs nothing and goes like the clappers compared to the 406 but then the 406 is quiet and comfy and practical and of course, it was my Dad's.
I've a bunch of electrical problems at the mo so I will be posting in the appropriate section.
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE WELCOME!!!

Re: New guy.
I believe the proper response to your question is D'oh!
It's 2001 so that makes it a 51 plate? The one thing I can't get my head around is reg plates. I just don't know how to read them. The first letter is the year but sometimes it's the last letter but after 2000 or 2001 it's numbers... What?
Four seats and a steering wheel is all I need to know. Oh, and where the loud pedal is!
