Pioneer Head Unit :(

Post by maglite »

My Pioneer DEH-P8600MP is doing something strange. It all operates as it should, except when I press eject, it beeps, but nothing happens. The face is supposed to move down and the CD is meant o eject itself. Also, in normal operation, when I turn off the ignition and wait a moment, the unit beeps and then face moves down for removal. Thats not even happening! AAAAAAARGH! I don't know what's wrong with it... I'm gonna cry

Try unplugging it for a few minutes? Is there a tiny hole on it you can shove a bent paperclip through to eject the disc?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

I had to take it out for further investigation as to what was going on with it. I took it out and then connected it inside the house with one of those jump starter things. I pressed the eject button and it worked! I think the motorized mechanism may have been stuck or something. I put 2 dabs of machine oil on both sides of the mechanism cogs just in case. It seems all operational now so I''ll be putting that back in tomorrow.

how old is the pioneer unit ????
did you buy it from a retailer or from flea-bay ???
if it's under 12 months and from a retailer take it back !!!!! they'll probably send it back for repair but pioneer units do have the highest failure rate on ejecting discs usually if we send one back it comes back repaired and we never see it again

hope this helps
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!!!!
