xbox dilema

Post by trem1 »

I have a dilema which im hoping you guys can help me with, my 12yr old son wants an xbox for xmas but i cant get a definate answer off people about memory, the problem i have is i've already spent £200 on a bike so i wanna keep prices down as much as possible so heres my problem

1:xbox arcade £130-ish with 256mb internal memory

2:xbox £170-ish with 60gb hard drive

how much memory is needed to save a game? he will not be going on the internet to download anything, he's got an ipod that plugs into his surround sound so no need to install music on it,got a dvd player so again no need for movies

is it worth getting the hard drive or not i know if i dont i can get one later but being for christmas and all i wanna do the right thing.

Any help or advise welcomed

not sure about the 360 but on my old "chipped" xbox i use the hard drive to store complete games so i hire them burn them to the hard drive and return them
don't know if you can do this with the new xbox 360
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!!!!

The hard disk is pretty essential. It lets you download demos from live and most importantly with with new update you can install games onto it, which is good because the dvd-rom is hideously noisy to the point I could only play games at night using headphones as I needed the volume up way too loud to compensate for the drive...

I'm sorry about this but I wonder if in 10 or 15 years time we will look back on a generation of people as the "gaming generation" and realise it was all a huge mistake.

But if you don't buy your kids this garbage it puts them at a disadvantage among their peers (wait 'til they want mobiles...)

There's 2 levels of xbox live account. The free one lets you download trailers, demos, etc and the pay-for subscription lets you play games online. There's a lot of value in being able to download demos. Saves buying crap you end up only playing for 10 mins before getting bored with
(mainly cos i dont have a clue how) besides the only internet connection is this on and its not wireless how would that work??
If the box you use to connect to the internet has a spare port for a network cable, you can probably just plug it in there, else you'll have to grab a cheap ethernet switch.

Mine's much the same, though not as practically minded - only time I saw him with a spanner in his hand was helping dad change his twisted wishbone for him, after solving the following equation:

Muddy roundabout + understeer = loud bang + knackered wheel /tyre + modified suspension +

He's asked Santa for a new clutch and quiet brakes. I suspect he's hoping for the 'magic wand' version, not the 'hands on' variety :frown:

He spends hours playing online games with his mates on PC & also the Xbox. It seems a waste to me, but to be honest there are many worse ways he could be spending his time.

I nearly said he should be dating but, with the CSA chasing men/boys from the age of 18 months, he's probably better off how he is. :|

Hey trem, i think you should get an xbox premium package if im honest. A mate of mines has an arcade and he is forever buying memory cards so it turns out cheaper in the long run... There should be good offers in some high street retailers and there should be a few pounds saved if you buy online...

A few popunds saved is a few pounds more for the pub lol... Have a good one mate :)
