Should I get this front bumper?

Post by MaDc0w »

Got 850 Euro from my insurance. I can't decide what I should do. :)
I have about a week to decide.

I was thinking of this front:

Costs:

- 595 Euro minus 30% rebate i get
- 150-200 Euro to have it painted
- 100-150 Euro to have it fitted (including screws ect)

Or:

- 80 Euro Ebay new OEM front
- 90 Euro Ebay new left foglight
- 150-200 Euro to have it painted
- 100-150 Euro to have it fitted (including screws ect)
- Use the rest cash for something else on my 406.

Or: ?

That bumper has that 'Kwalitee' look about it for sure.

as pug said a D9 upgrade might be more 'fitting' for you?

I DID look arround on mobile.de autoscout24.de and on the German ebay motors. Prices here are ridicules and your lucky to find anything usefull under 2000 Euro which I really don't want to spend. :)

And I would like my car in one piece again by mid April.

Dude...... NO Please dont.......

I think this is the only post I will ever make to ruffle some feathers as to speak, I ave seen the streetfighter kit on a Mondeo, and I have to tell you as I feel it is my duty to, that it is GASH ! ! The worst quality and look I have ever seeen...

If you want something that is more tasteful and elegant like your kind self then may I recommend, a small project for you ?

You are good with glassfibre etc. so why not modify the below bumoper to fit your D8?

Image

For your convenience I have copied below the link to a french site for the bumper, now you must admit that this looks alot better than the streetfighter and retains the beautiful 406 lines with some added aggression :D

Please oh please, I beg you do not use the streetfigher bumper ! !

You can't make your own stuff here. It would even be a risk to buy any parts not made in Germany because they may now pass German T?V regulations. All changes from the air filter to the mirrors are in registered in my papers.

I have seen this bumper on 406s at a French car show a few years ago and like how it looks. Besides that they just don't make much for the 406. :)

Can't you have it tested though for conformity to the regulations?

I'm so glad I don't live in Germany I would be in so much trouble ! ! lol

Well yeah I could:

I'd have to make 2-3 front bumpers. They need to pass break away tests, fire tests ect. Then I'd need a wind tunnel @ 750 Euro an hour. And theres a few other things that need to be checked. I'd say 4000-6000 Euro in costs.

Even the street fighter one is a risk. They check how low the number shild is, how low it's off the ground, possible sharp edges ect. If it was made here in Germany it would come with a extra paper stating all these things were tested and it would have an approval code.

Believe me i'd do some wicked things if I ived elsewhere! :cheesy:

Same goes for engine modding. If I ever do a turbo conversion, I might have to undo it. Same would go for buying a modded engine from HiFlow ect.

I moved here from the USA. I have dual citizenship but sometimes the German side can be embarrassing. :D

We can drive as fast as we want on the freeways but only the rich can afford to do tuning. Alu/Carbon wings have been banned. Same for most wide body kits ect.

That's why this buy is a tough decision.
