Phew! - Looks like my mate Goran came up with the goods. We have to take the pipe to a guy in Zagreb on Saturday and it'll cost about 30 quid. The guy who's doing it works on... Not forklifts, not lorries, not JCBs, not air con, in fact something you don't get in GB - ZET (Zagreb Electric Trams )

Mrs E was telling earlier me how a supply teacher over there was sacked for telling a class of kids they were behaving like retards, which (presumably) is insulting to retards. Are there retards though? "I'm sorry Mrs. Smith but your son is a retard", does this happen? I thought they called it "learning difficulties" or something now, so this insults people who don't exist. Or am I missing the point? Maybe he should have said they were acting like politicians...

Anyway, Pug towed to the workshop earlier and I have the pipe in a bag. Doesn't look much for something that costs 917Kn but there you go. The plan is to head for ZG stupidly early Monday morning, so we can be back and have the car together by about lunchtime (best laid plans of mice and men etc.) and it'll be ready for the next problem, whatever that is.

Hi there, I've got some good news and some bluddy awful news.

Went with my mate this morning to the guy, turns out to be a firm that does this sort of thing (plus lots more useful stuff like plastic welding) but they have enough custom without advertizing. Anyway, they changed both rubber sections, it only took 30 minutes and cost 200Kn (23.8853 GBP) Then we rushed back with it and the mechanic fitted it with me watching (fending off my offers of help). He filled it up, ran it and a big puddle of LHM formed underneath it. Bugger. It was leaking from the same place. I then had to borrow my mate's ancient Kadette (took me back a few years) and get it done again. I then had my second "oh sheep" moment, the guy called me over to show me how the pipe was cracked just next to the union. Not a problem though - they brazed another union on it and gave it back to me without requiring further payment Back to the workshop, fitted again, filled and bled. Then I tried to drive it out - my heart sank because it mde the most awful noise I ever heard a car make, the whole car groans when you turn the steering from lock to lock. It's ok once on the move but stationary - GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAHHHH!!!! Looks like I goosed the pump, this is not going to be cheap...

I said it looked like the metal fitting was at fault, the noise is probably just air in the system, it can take ages to get it all out sometimes. Just keep it topped up & persevere. Did you say LHM? should be Auto gear oil!
