The process seems relatively straightforward (albeit long), but there's a few issues what prevent me from doing it myself:

1. The gearbox is going to be bloody heavy and it'll be much easier to manoeuvre with 2 people on the job
2. It'll most likely take me 2 days to do:
2a) Good weather in Stoke 2 days on the trot?
2b) What do I do with a half disassembled car overnight?

Yup, the inverted torx bolt going through the top hinge is about 7mm undone, and turns with the door Think I'm going to have to buy a torx equivalent of an allen key set unless I can get a torx bit and 1/4" socket and wrench in the gap... which I doubt since there's a big bolt going into the door in the way

I'll chuck some thread locker on there too

How about a torx bit and a 1/4" combination spanner? (I've ended up doing worse...)

I'm totally non-mechanical (barely know what a bolt is, and own practically no tools barring a screwdriver and a hammer), but shouldn't the bolt go in from the top?

That would maybe stop it's gravity-assisted descent (what with the head of the bolt being wider than the hole).

Normally yes, but in this case you'll see there's no room to fit the screw in from the top

That's a good point, you should make yours all the right way up too, or one of your doors could fall off

It could be worse - the top hinge on the driver's door on my first BX 16valve ripped out the a-pillar (this was 2 years after I flogged it tho). They didn't design this involving feature out either, the same thing happened to my bro's Ksantia

Did I mention the rear tyres on this car are royally screwed too? They're both like this:



I'm thinking with a tiiiiiiiny little bit of oil, this could make a great drift car...

Can someone point me in the direction of what to mess with in order to change the camber on these things? Even a completely random faffing with it has got to be better than leaving it like this

I'm actually wondering if I should pay kwik-fit £50 to put these straight just for the couple of months before I can buy new rubber. This car could be NASTY under heavy braking in the wet!

On the up side, the back loses grip at exactly the same time as the front does at the moment, so it's awesome fun when driven hard

Maybe the coupe's different I'm hoping the toe is the problem, otherwise you're looking at bushes or damage.

DIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I've just got in from changing the offside disc+shoes+pads. FAIL!

The pads came off easily as expected, the disc was a cinch and then the shoes came off easily as well. 4 HOURS later I'd got the new shoes on It was pitch black (thank god for my starter/inverter/compressor/light thing!), really windy and 5c out. By the end of it I was so cold I could barely lift the new disc out of the box... and it was vented Yep, the bloke at EuroCarParts f*cked up and sold me a front disc, and I was stupid enough not to check So on with the old disc+shoes

Just driven it to the chippy. With the handbrake on. It's quieter that way. I've found out what the noise is - it's the discs so badly corroded on the inside (of the disc and also the drum area). There's only about a 3/4" ring on the inner side that's not brown and lumpy.

At least tomorrow's job is going to be a lot easier.

I'm really scared about the thought of doing the nearside shoes now. It was only a fluke I managed to get the offside on - Levering the shoes all over the place desperately trying to get the things into place... The method that got me there in the end was similar to the BoL initially:

1. The thing that goes on the cable end first
2. The lower shoe, "screwed" in
3. The top shoe with bottom spring attached wedged in so the spring almost reaches the lower shoe
4. Clip the big spring in
5. Fit the adjuster in
6. Clip the little spring (by the adjuster) in
7. One screwdriver levering the top shoe from the top of the hub (!!!!), another screwdriver levering the top shoe up onto the bit of metal by the cable thing
8. One screwdriver levering the top shoe from the top of the hub, HARD (!!!!). One screwdriver levering the cable thing end of the top shoe up on the thing that looks like a protruding screw hole, and a foot kicking the shoe into the back plate
9. Swearing. Lots of.

There has GOT to be a better way of doing it

I think I'll finish changing the offside pads and disc in EuroCarParts' car park. I'm so f*cked off they gave me the wrong discs, and equally f*cked off at myself for not checking

BTW, don't forget to clean off the new discs, and the drum bits, with brake cleaner or something similar.
