Opinions on a D9 2litre Exec Auto

Post by TonyW »

Looking hard now for a 406 Estate and have seen a D9 2.0 Executive which looks good but has an autobox, which is someting I've not really considered before.

Are they any good or are there any known problems with them, the car has quite a few miles 120k+ so has lived a hard life and if they are pretty fragile then I'll stay away, but if they are any good I could be tempted!

Also I can see some buttons by the side in the pics, a 'sports' mode perhaps? Is this going to make her more entertaining to drive maybe? (and kill the mpg of course!!!).

Any thought, opinions or experiences please, cheers.

I haven't heard many good things about an auto box on 406's. They are pretty fragile things as far as I heard.

Someone will be along with more info no doubt :supafrisk:

2008 - 2009: 2004 Honda Accord 2.2 CDTI 136bhp Executive Saloon
2009 - 2013: 2002 Peugeot 406 2.0 HDI 110bhp Executive Saloon
2013 - 2021: 2007 Peugeot 407 2.2 HDI 170bhp Executive Saloon (mapped to 213bhp )

120k isn't high miles for a 406, not by a long, long way.

The auto boxes can have issues with the more powerful cars, but a 2.0 petrol won't give it any grief. I'd always take a manual though, it's not like there's a shortage of 2nd hand 406s

Yeah, there are plenty about but I would realy like an Exec model, just for the flash of it! So hopefuly the auotbox should stand up to the workload from a 2.0? Thats could mean a trip to the dealers this weekend ... 8) 8) 8)

I don't know if it still applies but you used to be able to adjust auto 'boxes so maybe a service would be worth looking into.

Sorry Steve, but adjust them how? To make them last a bit longer with a service or something like that?

You used to be able to adjust brake bands etc from the ouside of the 'box, as I say I'm not sure if that still happens. An oil change would be a good start anyway.

Hi TonyW,
I have a manual 406 executive estate i am considering selling. contact me on 07981675024 if you want to know more. it has done 165000 but has been maintained by me sinse 98000 regardless of cost. i posted a photo of it on this site a month or so ago. its metalic grey and an black all leather interior. a unused towbar, (well only for a small garden trailer) sun roof air con, (reqires recharging afterr the winter) i think its in good nick for its age (2000) X reg. i have it on a private plate at the moment. i have most of the service history and a spare set of 17 alloys to go with it. supply me with you email address and i could send you some photos if you want. i am located in the new forest, hampshire. regards ian

Ian,

cheers for the photo's and info, she does look very nice. To be honest that'd be too much money for me but good luck with it if you do decide to sell her. TonyW
