Hey all im alan (keys) 8) :cheesy:

have bought a 406 1.8lx cos of recession last car was REPO'd
cheap at 300 nicker and only done 70k
am gonna do the cam + aux belt + water pump myself
as limited history known :(

Need a new drivers side front shock (cheap)
Haynes says something bout active suspension but dont think i have this
no visible wires etc.
How can i tell???

Also the key fob doesnt work (no prob for me)
Had a prob twice now of the lock barrel spinning in the door
Is this easy to repair??? hope so... :roll:


EDIT:
Also forgot does anybody know the size of bolts/drill-bits to lock the cam/crankshaft sprockets Its 1.8 16valve (XU7 JP4)

Fairly competent just wanted to ask someone knowledgable :cheesy:

Hi Alan, I don't know about the active suspension or the door lock, have you tried spraying lots of WD 40 in the lock?

The camshaft locking pins are usually 6mm or 8mm, but have some 6, 8, and 10 around just in case.

Hi there Alan. Can't help with a shock, there's a couple of cars being broken on here but not 1.8s.

Lock barrel spinning is a security feature :roll: If you put the wrong key in the lock it spins, obviously if the lock's stiff from lack of use it won't "recognise" the right key. As Jaspers says squirt some WD in it, followed by graphite powder (locksmith or maybe just Halfords).

Susprised Haynes doesn't tell you (then again, perhaps not :wink: )

Im chuffed bout the lock. thanks for the advice
will definatley try WD
had a look at the shocks properly and all seem normal so good news there
hope its plain sailing now !?

i had to drive the beast today
it does go well
i know i shouldn't till i get the belts done
