UK to get National 50 mph speed limit

Post by MikeBX16V »

It is now planned to make all 60mph limits into 50 limits, and enforce the limit strictly with numerous average speed cameras.

This is to start NEXT year!

If you do not want to drive under such blanket limitations, not based on actual road situations, please add your name to the petition.

This will make owning any fast car almost pointless.

please post the message and link on any other motoring forums you use

thanks,

Mike

I doubt it would go through. There would be uproar and possibly revolution! In ireland, we can drive as fast as we want. No speedcams anywhere! But they will be bringing them in soon!

Over here the government bring in whatever they want and don't give a crap about what the population wants

Signed.

Also, 70 is a rubbish top speed for dual carriageway and motorway roads. While we're protesting about this silly reduction, can we have that a bit higher too? :P

Especially as that rule was introduced about 40 years ago and has never been looked at or changed since. If you consider what the difference is between a current cars safety, speed ability, braking efficiency, etc to a car from that era, the limit should theoretically be raised to about 130mph! Obviously that's too high and a bit silly, but I think 90 would be a good limit for motorways. Also most Traffic Police Officers won't start booking people for speeding on the motorways unless they are going over 90, or unless they do something stupid and the Police witness said stupid act.

I'm sure the powers that bee would be quick to point out there's a lot more traffic now than there was 40 years ago too...

Or are playing snooker

We've got some 130kmh limits on the motorways here (that's 80.778254991mph), there's less cars here of course but the locals drive like complete pillocks.
