I was very interested in a 156 SW a few years back, then I read on the owner's klub what goes wrong with them (MAF sensor as a consumable,more wishbones than Bernard Matthews), the final straw was the cost of the parts.

That was the 156 but, looking at HJ, not much has changed. I hope they got rid of the 156's fly open bonnet and "need for welly boots" waterproofing.

I did drive the 406 (well, had to move it around a bit) the other day and it did feel a bit loose and wobbly but it is 10 years old I suppose.

I think generally because the 406 is based around the D8 from 1996 then cars have move on quite a bit since and drive quite differently - the Volvo certainly forgives (or interupts) any poor driving with it's stability programme whatnot whereas the 406 would slap you in the face in other words any old numpty can drive a modern car and appear quite skilled at it

These are currently on my radar. MX5 for fun factor, 406 Koope for cruising and posing and the Bimmer for a combination of the two - though it would have the highest KM on the clock out of these...

Also a Renaultsport Clio 182 has come into the equation!

And no, I'm not selling the 406 - Donating it to another member of the family

Then the whole unit pops out and unplugs...

Nice colour. That's a good idea, tippy-out headlamps, is it the Renault were you have to take half the car apart to get to the bulbs?

Cheers, the headlights are a great idea it honestly takes no more than 15 seconds to have the whole unit out and in your hands

Pity there's not a "pull here to change Cambelt" thing


The boot is a bit weird - it's very 'long' but the entry/opening in not very deep. There is a nice flip up door thing in the boot floor where you can secure/strap in one or two shopping bags to stop them sliding about.
