Rip off insurance company courtesy cars....

Post by Welly »

One of our vans at work had a minor bump last week and sure enough before I could put the phone down there was a guy at the door with a replacement vehicle (a Vectra) for use whilst the van was being fixed.

As you know the insurance market is a lot different to how it used to be and the repairs and courtesy cars all happen almost outside of your control in an effort to ease the trouble for you but also in an effort to 'build up' the insurance claim against the third party in effect (imo of course).

Anyhow I had to sign for the vectra which was 1 year old, low miles but bloody covered in scratches, dings, chips so much so it was neigh on impossible to agree on it's delivered condition but nevertheless I had to sign for it cos we needed it. When it was collected yesterday the guy pointed out that the roof/top of the rear door was scratched and it wasn't recorded on his stupidly-small hand held screen doo-dad so in other words "it's been damaged"

A couple of clicks with his silly pen thing on the screen doo-dad revealed a cost of £154.00 for the necessary 'repairs' to the scratches.

Now surely if I agreed to pay then that would mean the car would be taken out of service to be repaired to pristine condition? I don't think so! it was covered in damage (the condition report shows 42 areas on the car with damage of various descriptions) :frown:

I refused to sign for the damage and they took it away, now a case has been raised with their damage dispute 'team' for further review and I'm expecting a great big counter-claim report/form that I've got to spend time on :frown:

They were charging the Insurance £47.00 per day for the car (£1,400.00 a month) you can't tell me that's not enough to cover costs including it's final condition before it goes to auction

It's a bloody scam to try and fleece you and it's pissed me right off!

If they've got 42 areas of damage recorded against it before you took it, I'd just say to them "fine, lets take it to court". You'd have trouble finding a magistrate that would accept that 42 areas of damage was the precise condition of such a dodgy car...
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

we rented a van from a well known star trek based rental company for my work
they dropped the thing to me at 10am and i checked it over made sure it was all ok and to be fair it was
filled the thing with crap and procceded to drive it a huge total of 3 miles when the engine went pop in a big way ..... i mean oil coming outta the exhaust and smoke in the cabin
so i pull over as soon as it's safe to (eg. i threw the thing in the first road i saw ) and arrange for the aa to pick it up
6 weeks later head office get a bill for 4300 for a new engine turbo etc and we're liable apparently because i drove the thing after it developed the fault
last i heard we were heading to court but i know we're disputing it

oh and this wasn't a 10 year old nail it was a 2 week old vauxhall movano with only 3000 miles on it
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you !!!!!
