Brake and Clutch Parts Online

After replying to marco 2002 about a brake problem, I was desperately trying to find a brake parts supplier online, I suddenly remembered these chaps......

They are based in Rochdale, they used to have a store near me, but it closed a while back, they sell all sorts of brake parts that you may not be able to find in dealers or local factors.

I can highly recommend them. Had quite a few brake parts from them over the last few years. Even do all the associated bits, like calpier rebuild kits, etc aswell as all the obvious. Good prices and quick delivery too.

What a coincidence! I discovered yesterday that my suzuki jeep has a weeping rear cylinder at the moment and I was thinking of replacing the pair while I'm at it, but the cheapest I could find them yesterday was £25 each. That site has them for £10 each

Erm, 2 for each side. You should only ever change brakes in pairs, i.e. both front, or both rear, so therefore you would need 4 pads.

Looks a good site that - dmf & clutch kit for a smidgen under £300 +vat doesn't seem too bad.

Nope, front as a pair, or rear as a pair only. You should never replace the brakes on one side of the car and not the other.

I was wondering when you'd realise! No judgement made, we can be numpties from time to time!

Bought front and rear pads and front discs for Swiss' Missus' Omega. Bought 'em on t'internet, I did.

Questions (and thread hi-jack): the MOT failed on, among other things, 'front brake imbalance 44%'. Does this refer to the state of the pads (or rather the complete lack of them)?

It also failed its emissions (scored a 7). It's a TD, so it needs to be under 6 IIRC. Now, I've got new filters and a bottle of jollop to go in the tank, but what I'm wondering is how does a chap take an automatic for an Italian tune-up? It's got a sport setting but that would involve doing 140 up the M27, upsetting the village bobby. Do I stick it in, like, 3 or something?

Quite a cool engine, mind you. Straight-6 2.5L, made - for some reason - by BMW. I asked the former owner when the belt had last been done - apparently it's got a chain for the timing instead, which ought to last the lifetime of the engine. Sweet

Though I prefer me 6, natch ^_^

Chances are, that the pads are siezed in their slots, obviously you have to fit new ones, so that will be fixed, just make sure the pads slide in easily when you fit them.
Also, the sliders for the caliper need to be checked for being siezed (if yours has sliders), or the pistons need to be nice and free.

Before you fit the new discs, make sure you clean the surface of the disc with brake cleaner or degreaser.

As for the emmisions, try to get some of that cleaner into the fuel filter housing, it will be far more effective that way.

Driving it in 3 will be fine, you just need to keep the revs high to clean it out, do this on the way for the retest as well.
