Pfffft Dealers

Post by Daveyravey »

Well, i was meant to take deliver of my 02 plate 406 executive last friday, but i still ain't got it :x

Firstly, the muppets didn't put the car through the workshop for a service etc til thursday afternoon, with the valeter giving it a good clean on friday morning for me to collect at lunchtime.

The car went through the workshop & the computer started to through up fueling faults. Luckily enough the garage does have a Peugeot computer, so they were cleared.

The valeter cleaned the car & took it to stick some fuel in it, only to find the damn fuel guage doesn't work :frown: He was asked to stick another tenners worth in the tank, but it went to half, then returned to empty.

They've changed the sender unit, to no avail.

Even put their top man onto it & 2 days later he's still no further forward...... he's saying there's a broken wire somewhere between the sender & dash.

Had a meeting today with the branch manager, who is rather pissed off with the whole escapade...... join the club pal !!!!!

If it's gonna cost too much to fix, they're gonna have to rethink the deal & we have to come to an agreement .

They're now bringing in a sparky to check it out, but as it's a public holiday on monday, he won't get started to it til tuesday.

I'm now getting rather fed up with all the fannying around to fix a damn fuel gauge..... it can't be that difficult.

Why they can't phone around the other dealers to see if they've had the same problem & the remedy beats me

One good thing, they gave me a Xsara picasso courtesy car to keep me moblie whilst they do a training course on my car.

Sorry for taking up bandwidth, but i'm just needing to sound off.

Anyone else had this kind of problem with dealers ???

Doesn't seem like the dealer is doin much wrong IMO. At least he isn't trying to flog the car off to you with a dodgy fuel gauge which is exactly what happened me when i bought my first 406

Public Holiday on Monday 1st June? :? ...am I sat at work for no reason today? :(

Anyhoo, the dealer seems to be doing his best to fix the problem BUT I wouldn't be to keen on paying more for the car now just because he's had to fix something - that's HIS problem not yours!

Most dealers retain about £1,000.00 on these cars from the trade in to allow for their Warranty, MOT, Valet, Bodywork prep for the sale, Service, Admin costs, overheads and profit.

If he's asking for more money then he's trying you out just to see if he can recoup some of the costs to keep his losses down.

He's unlikely to let you walk away now because he'd only have to got through the whole process again with another punter. I'm gussing you got a good deal towards the end of May and now it's June it'll mess his monthly's up a bit so it's a new set of rules to him but stand your ground I'd say.

When I bought the Volvo the Dealer was *really* pissed that I couldn't collect on the last day of January (because of snow) and his attitude was markedly different to that of the previous dealings :|

They're not asking for any more cash, i'd have told them to get stuffed if that was the case.

I'm ex trade myself, so know how they work

UPDATE...

Just off the phone with the branch manager & they've got an autosparky coming in to check it out tomorrow.

If he can't sort it or it's gonna be too expensive to sort, it looks like i'm getting to keep the poofmobile( mrs name for picasso) & to be honest i'm getting to like it....... never thought i'd ever say that about a Citroen

I'll know exactly what's happening in the next 2 days, so i'll update again when i have news.

Just thought i'd let you all know i would be getting the pug, as the sparky found out it needed a part that wasn't economically viable for the dealer to fit.

They tried to palm me off with a Hyundai Elentra, but one quick look at that & i turned my nose up..... what a pile of crap that was... 1 year older, higher milage & paintwork needed a good T cut. Leather was all cracked, dash looked cheap..... don't think i need to go any further !

Needless to say, i got my money back.

All i need to do is find a suitable car that ain't a pig to fix.......... anyone got a morris marina going cheap ???

Hyundai Elantra???? i wouldn't have even wanted to look at it. You'll find a nice 406 for little money soon. You will not regret getting one (slightly bias opinion)
