No, but it's always a good thing to replace regularly. You'll understand if you see the colour of yours compared to a new one

Hi,
The way I look at it is this....healthwise.
When you see the muck that collects very quickly in one of these filters.....think about how much of it would end up inside yourself had it been blown into the cabin vents towards your face.
I spend most of my working life in the urban environment (usually behind a bus or three) so anything that stops the dust/fumes/soot getting in is a bonus.

All 406s have them. It's under the panel beneath the passenger windscreen wiper.

I have a spare compressor from a 2003 HDi 110, (which I picked up but didn't need as mine was a condenser problem). Not sure if it's the same - let me know if you're interested, I'll send some pics, make/model etc.

Changing it isn't too bad a job - aux. drive belt off, 2 x refrigerant pipes, 1 electrical plug/socket, mounting bolts. Weighs something like 10 kg. - you can just about pick it up with one hand.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Be careful if you do change the compressor yourself though seeing as you've had it re-gassed, just in case it's holding any residual.
Did they not pressure test the system before they re-gassed it?!
