I am shock and amaze at the numbers that are being reported for petrol 1997 406 manual 2.0 16V. I am driving in heavy stop go city traffic and over the last few months , I noticed the car needed more refilling and I was only getting on averages 13.3 mpg. I am sure i got my math right as i can only clock around 420km~440km before the fuel lit remains permanently lit. Have done some prelim checks like exhaust, general engine servicing incl stepper motor cleaning but still no improvement. What else can I check?

I did not get the math’s right. I got the KM to miles thing wrong, should be 1.61 km to a mile. But it still is on the high side don’t you guys think, no doubt it is town use. But surely Londoners even get better? So with the correction i am clocking 18mpg

It's interesting to hear about low mileage from Supermarket fuels (I know mjb always said that) see I've been running Tesco's Super Unleaded in the 'tank' for months because I'm a lazy arse and have a Tesco near my work but have just recently been using Shell V-Power and the car's more urgent on accelerating and the mpg-o-meter is creeping up to headline breaking 26.3mpg at the mo.

I'll be monitoring the Shell stuff with interest....

Morrison's B30 FTW. 20% better MPG and smoother, slightly gutsier performance.

Assuming it's not all in my head, anyway.

If you click through the computer settings options, click over from L/100Km to mpg.
Make a note of your mpg and click it back to L/100Km.

I drive a truck. 10 mpg is pretty good for that, and 10 mpg is roughly 32l/100km. If your only getting 15 or 16L/100Km, it's bloomin' thirsty  even on town work.

There's no settings on D8s - you need to fiddle with the wiring to change it to/from metric

Jack up each corner (start at the back!) and see if any of your wheels aren't turning freely. You could check all the spark plugs are firing too. Also check all your tyres are properly inflated

No computer figures here just real ones worked out from fill up to fillup.

1998 2.1 td

Motorway from midlands up to scotland with a roof box on i got 40mpg

To and from work A and B roads 9 miles each way i get 38mpg

best i have ever achieved was a run to cornwall and i got 42mpg

I dont cane it to be honest and very rarely have the A/C on so i dont think its going to get better than that for me
