Any recommendations on tyres?

Post by Doggy »

Going have to change the front pair shortly - std 205/60/15, (Prestivos on it when I bought it).
It's become very torque-steery, (always was a bit) and a tad vague, plus getting some vibration at 75 ish.
The 2 fronts are about worn out, so new boots/tracking might sort it. Got Continentals on the back, should I get the same, or what do you think? Car does about 25k a year, mainly motorway / main roads.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

When I got my alloys for my saloon, they had Hankook tyres on them that were 2mm above the legal limit.
I did and still do around 18K a year. The hankook tyres made the car stick to the road regardless of the weather and were still legal 9 months later!

Hope I'm not teaching granny to suck eggs here.....

When you decide which tyres you want try www.Blackcircles.com . I buy my tyres from them and have them delivered to my house, take them to the local fitter who does his bit for £6 a rim - saving £20 a tyre on the last two Continentals I bought.

I bought a set of part worn Dunlops a few years back for my first 406, been in the shed ages, i put them on my car last week and the transformation is amazing! i know when i bought the car it has nearly bald cheap nasty Kazakhstan Borat tyres but definatly go for the best brand you can afford its not just gimmicky branding they are a great improvement, all got 6mm on them so should last the course quite nicely!

I always buy stuff with a name since getting some "budget" tyres on my mondeo years ago, they were £40 each, pretty grippy in the dry but useless in the wet and wore out after 6000 miles :( . All the branded tyres I had on that car lasted about 15000 no probs.

I went through a period a couple of years back of getting all my tyres off blackcircles or mytyres because the price difference was clear, good tyres for less than £40 and the garage used to fit them for £4 each (supply & fit price for the same tyres was around £65, so well worth the bother), but the last coupe of pairs the tyres had gone up to £45 and the fitting had gone up to £7.50, had this conversation with the local tyre shop and he agreed to do me Goodyears or Pirellis for £55 fitted, so all the buying them off the internet, waiting in for delivery, getting them fitted etc.... was no longer worth the hassle.

So I now have Goodyear NCT5s all round which are very nice, previously on the 406 I've had Pirelli P6000s (which I thought were great but others on here don't like) and Pirelli P7s which were good.

Go with Dai on this one , i put Falken 452's all round on mine they have
been good tyres wet & dry , they have done around 15k now and the front
ones though legal just dont seem to be much good when cold and also on
some surfaces are as noisy as a skeleton having a wank in a coke can
i had them from my tyres for a very good price and paid £20 to have em all fitted
and balanced but as Dai says the price difference has come down
.. ooh are those drugs for me Matron
