Shift work (night)

I work shifts, odd hours, including nights.

I've never had a prob;em with nights. Don't plan anything for that week just accept that it is a week out of your life that you wont see again, but that you are being compensated for financially. A good nights sleep at the beginning and end and you should be right as rain.

in the end though, it is up to you, what do you think? You've had chance to ask the questions you need to - were the answers what you wanted to hear? I wish you well and hope you make the decision tht suits you

I reckon I did OK but haven't had any feedback yet. I am still pondering about the shifts as it's a big put off. Seems like more people dislike it than like. But the apparent prestige (located in St. James' Park in London), experience gain and potential career progression (and £) seems to be pivoting the point a bit.

i worked nights when i was in college to pay for the running of my car
to be fair it was awful having no social life but the cash was very very welcome and i worked with a great bunch of people so that made it much easier

that being said i'd struggle to do that again now i have a family

Forgot about this... I didn't get the job with them citing that I would get "bored" and would not find the work "challenging".

Yes, it does seem strange. I guess the following extract from the interview put a nail in the coffin for me:

GAM: So, Alex, why did you leave your previous job?
Me: It lacked challenge and was a little monotonous. There was also little chance of career development.
GAM: But don't you think that you may find this role a little monotonous, as it involves a lot of monitoring on a daily basis?
Me: No, as you have a far larger infrastructure than in that role, which will keep me on my toes. Also, as you have mentioned, there is plenty of opportunity for career development.
