petrol tubby problem
Hi folks, Im new to the forum, so Hello!
Basically ive got a problem with my 97 petrol tubby.
When pulling from junctions etc... i have to slip the clutch to get it moving safely, otherwise it will choke up and try to stall.
Also in the mc'donalds drive through today, i could hear the revs 'hunting'.
It has been modified, with a baily dump valve, induction kit, magnecor leads, upgraded boost (13psi) and stainless exhaust.
Its boosting correctly, but it feels very flat, and the torque feels like it has disapeared.
Hope someone can help me,
Cheers.

Re: petrol tubby problem
Welcome on in mate!
As far as the rough idling, I'd give the idle air valve a clean; it gets crudded up with carbon. May also be worth checking the lamba sensor.
Edit: Bit of reading for you!

Re: petrol tubby problem
Would a dirty fuel filter cause that kind of problems, as last week i ran it out of petrol
...
I will give the idle valve a clean though. Its pretty thirsty aswell, averaging 22mpg round town.

Re: petrol tubby problem
Rough idling is usually caused by the idle control valve, piece of cake to clean on a tubby. As for the issues pulling away, I'd try cleaning the throttle pot and throttle body

Re: petrol tubby problem
I guess the turbo doesnt have a MAF then? Cause the only thing connected to the airfilter, is a black pipe going direct to the turbo. I cleaned the ICV, throttle body, and got a new fuel filter. All seems ok so far...
Thanks for everyones help.

Re: petrol tubby problem
you should have a MAF it should be like a hard plastic cylinder either screwed into the side of the air filter or clipped in with a electrical connector coming off it

Re: petrol tubby problem
Mine doesnt have one either. I dont think they run a MAF sensor.
Why are you specifically trying to find it? Are you having some problems? If so, what? Ive had all manor of running problems and i have finally sorted them out now.

Re: petrol tubby problem
just more of curiosity as i never noticed a sensor anywere along the air intake pipe from the filter to the turbo. so i just wanted to make sure i wasnt missing anyhing as the engines in pieces in my garage at the moment, i didnt want to come to the day of starting it up then it not working because on the of the sensors was missing so was just double checking
