Hello

Post by LXTom »

Good evening all,
stumbled across the forum through google due to the "sloshing water problem".

Got a R plate 1.8 16v 406 saloon had all of two days now and so far loved it considering i only got it as i stumbled across it on ebay for £300 and was torn between spending the best part of £300 putting a temporary run around ford shitescort through an mot or get a ready to go replacement so went for the replacement and even managed to px the shitescort as well meaning i only acually paid around £240 for the pug.

will sort some pictures out tommorow when its hopefully dry enough to wash it.

so far its been good to me have a few little issues but nothing major a few lamps out on the displays and knackerd cigar lighter socket which wont really take alot to sort.

and this also happens to be my thrid pug so there must be something about the lion that attracts me to them. previously had two 106`s and the mother in law has a 306 estate which i borrow from time to time when i have no fuel or car or just need a bit more room in the back.

any way enough chat for now will stick around got quite a knowledge of the lovely french way of automotive thinking so will no doubt be able to help out and answer some problems other people may have. 8)

Hi ya,I did some bulb replacement yesterday.Display and ciggy lighter bulbs are bosch part no:BLB286.
Display is easy prise two covers off, undo four torx, pull unit out.Three bulbs here.
Ciggy lighter............mmm put a least an hour aside for this.I couldnt get at bulb without taking the center consol out.In fact the bulb was not at fault, the holder had fallen off the lighter and was slack when i finally got it back on.So now ive taped the sod back on but took the fuse out.I dont use the lighter,if I did now it would melt the tape, may even cause a fire!!!
So if you can be arsed, bulb is a BLB286 again, remove ash tray good tug, remove surround good tug, undo two 10mm nuts, slide gaitor forwards an inch this will now come lose and turn inside out upside down ,undo two 15torx screws on the sides of consol, under these screws prize outwards the two plastic lugs with crosses in them(these hold the side panels with the heater ducts in),prise out plastic stip under handbrake lever, remove coin holders prize out with screwdriver(carful dont slip and scratch anything!)put screwdriver in forward of the half circle shape and push backwards and rest off holder including air bag switch will come out(carful with the wire),slid seats forward and find a 10mm bolt either side of consol and undo(sit in back of car for this),now slid seats back and carfully lift up consol about 8inch but watch out for the plastic flappy thing under the handbrake lever it should fall through the gap but be carefull. The bulb is in the black plastic bit on the side of the lighter, carfully prise the holder off the body sideways(this is where mine is buggerd). Now have fun trying to get bulb out.But enjoy finding money etc and cleaning the fluff that you normally couldnt get at.Good luck... :)

Quick search on here would have told you that all you need to do is shove your fingers in the socket, twist it anticlockwise then pull the metal barrel up. The orange plastic surround with the bulb will then lift out.

I did a quick search and found that other people were stuggling to get the lighter out too!I thought this was a friendly site obviously I was wrong.Do you not think I would have tried to get the lighter out an eaiser way first? If this is the thanks you get for trying to help someone then you can turn it anticlockwise and stick the club up your arse.
I also did a quick search on unfriendly moderators and guess whos name came up?
Bye bye.

I think mjb was saying to try searching for your answer first. If everyone asked a question without searching they'd be loads of kinda repeated questions.

Your lighter socket is not really going to keep any of the members here awake at night and indeed if it's stuck or playing up then buy a new one? I'm not sure we deserved your typed out abuse there.

You think my telling you and the OP (who, as far as we know, still has yet to do the job) how to do it properly and easily is unfriendly, but telling people to "turn it anticlockwise and shove your club up your arse" is perfectly acceptable behaviour?
