Hazards come on under heavy braking????

Post by seismic22 »

Hi there,

upon taking the 406 out into the country side and giving it some stick, under heavy braking the hazard warning lights came on when coming to a stop a few times. It has happened under hard braking up to traffic lights once before aswell. I expect its some sort of design safety feature but i bloody hate it, so annoying, any way i can turn it off?

Cheers

It may be possible to take it to a dealer and get them to disable the feature

Loads of cars do that now, I think it's a really good feature. Saves you fumbling around for the hazard switch when you're trying to do 70 to 0 in a couple of seconds all because some fekkin eejit doesn't know how to drive on a motorway    .....

I had a search to see if I could find out what actually does that (and failed  ) but I read some new cars now flash the brake lights.

If anyone saw Top Gear on Sunday, the Audi Q7 kept flashing the hazards when the Stig was heavy braking when doing the timed lap. Seems to be a fairly common safety feature on modern cars these days.

OKay, looks like its gona have to stay then i guess! I accept it is a good safety feature for when some moron on the motorway decides to suddenly brake to rubberneck a little bit but sometimes i fancy being a loon out in the countryside, on my own where no ones behind me and it is flamin frustrating!!! Cant exactly brake hard and late and accelerate out of the corner that well when your trying to switch the hazards off at the same time! ha! Better just stick to my MPG hunting ways!

Cheers everyone!

They should only be in while you're braking though.... Once you come off the brakes and onto the loud pedal they should stop, so just ignore them....

In over 3 years, I've had the hazzards coming on twice, so I'd say either your driving is a bit lead footed, or the sensor that makes this happen is faulty.

I thought it only occurs under heavy braking over 50mph.

Yeap that sounds about right, everytime its been over 50mph and everytime i have been driving in the "i need to escape back to the countryside and drive a 205 gti flat out on country lanes" style!!! I just need to calm down and enjoy the 406's cruising abilities it think.

Never happened on mine - d'ya reckon they've all got the feature, or do I need to drive in a less sedately manner?
