Heres a tip for you

Post by BruceT »

When fitting HID's dont stand back and admire them or turn them off a few times either...without having the engine running as you get a flat battery & always remember to periodically charge your battery jumper back so can do its intended job.

Great times...

I seem to remember jumping a D9 406 is a taboo thing too, great.

New battery time I think and more money... superb. I love cars.

Not at the moment, I was going to check the pattern and allignment tonight compared to stock, but alas the car wont start.

I dont think the HID could of drained the battery as such though as they are in the standard H7 connector and no different wiring...

so a few possible causes are;

1. My crap commute not giving the car enough charge & OR Alternator (Hope not  )
2. Turning the HID's on and off too many times (They used a lot of juice when igniting and starting up but consume 35w when running)
3. Cold has killed it.
4. All off the above.

I was so exited about going to compared to stock but hooo hmmmm. :frown:

Good find fella, shame you're openly admitting on a public forum that you intend to disregard the law

You can fit HIDs to a car that didn't have them as standard, but the whole unit has to be changed (different reflectors) and they have to have cleaning and self levelling systems. They also have to be type approved and e-marked, which can only be done by the manufacturer. Who's gonna write to Valeo? :o

Apparently self-levelling suspension counts too.

I was in my mate's garage the other week and I noticed an old Fiat (Punto? No idea, a crap car is a crap car to me), pile of junk, engine urinating oil everywhere and obviously completely neglected but it did have HIDs. What's all that about?

These after-market HIDs don't seem worth the effort - expensive, illegal and don't seem to last too long by all accounts. Not that, if my finances weren't in such bad shape, I wouldn't consider them...

Please forgive me but every time I see this thread title I think "don't whistle with a mouth full of custard" :P

There was a big trend for 407 owners with non-HID cars to upgrade them with aftermarket kit, but the differences in current consumption has been killing BSIs due to the sharp rise in consumption on startup, so the trend has faltered. Can't see the BSI on a D9 would be any less succeptible to this.

Jumping a 406 is safe - just make sure you leave the headlamps switched on on the reipient car to absorb any voltage spikes...hold on...that won't work...you've HIDs...!

It's funny how we buy batteries with 4-year warrenties etc when the reality is likely to be that the car will be long gone by then :| I bought a £60 quider "Super Extra Power Mega Start Super, Super' for mine and it was, err super - can't speak for the new owner though, he probably thinks I'm a bit of a twat by now

Yeh too true, But I do intend on keeping this car for a while (Longest ive kept a car so far is about 14 months lol)

I could of got a £60 one too, but thought id get one with a better cold cranking rating and from a reputable manufacturer.

Even if it 'only' lasts the 5 years its only £22 a year, bit like tyres in that respect, large outlay but last a good few years (less if performance car lol)
