D8 and D9 are Froggy terms for mk1 and mk2. Don't ask me why!

D8 and D9 also appear on one of the dials on the instrument cluster (on my car, D9 is shown, in small letters, coloured shiny-black-on-matt-black-plastic, on the speedo dial).
2002 (D9) Peugeot 406 Coupe SE, 2.2 litre Petrol. Scarlet Red/Rouge Ecarlate/Rosso Scarlatto. Black Leather interior. SOLD
2008 (E60 LCI) BMW 525i M-Sport, 3.0 litre Petrol. Carbonschwarz Metallic. Black Dakota Leather and Myrtlewood interior.
If I was to hazard a guess at the D8 thing I'd go for the D representing the "4", i.e the size designator (at least until they ran out of numbers!), and the 8 representing the model number sequentially, bearing in mind that there have been facelifts of various platforms along the way, hence the 406 being both D8 & D9. Of course that applies logic, which seems to persistently escape french car makers so it might be total bolox.... Anyone know if the 407 is a D10??
