I have a 2002 406 2.0HDi Rapier saloon, with a 5 speed manual gearbox. Unfortunately, the ABS rings are shot and the cheapest (and easiest) option I've found is to replace the front driveshafts - around £190 fitted for recons.
Problem is - there are two types of driveshaft - depending on which gearbox I have.
Can anyone tell me where to look for a "type plate" or similar?
Thanks in advance,
Lee.
Which gearbox do I have???

ML5T or ML5C? I *think* that's down to 90bhp or 110bhp but the easiest way is if you post or pm me your vin.

...Or TURBO DIESEL DW10TD AND GEARBOX BE4R
I think 90's have the above & 110 / 136's the ML5T or ML5C
I'm basing this on the different final drive ratios - Welly's 110 had the same o/a gearing as mine.
- think early BE series have rod-type gear selection linkage, later BE4 & ML5T have cable operation (2 cables) and ML5C have 3-cable set, with lifty-up knob to select reverse - my 136 has this arrangement, buy at least some Y-plate 136's had the older arrangement with reverse back from 5th.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Gah! I thought there was a difference but I didn't see it and concluded I was remembering D8 1.9/2.1dogslife wrote:..Or TURBO DIESEL DW10TD AND GEARBOX BE4R

Btw does anyone see a problem in posting VINs? It's not like it's your credit card number...

Re: Which gearbox do I have???
most VINs are visible through the windscreen nowdays anyway, so its not like they are hidden, so i dont see any problems with posting VINs and/or reg numbers, you can read them off any car in the street

Good point, I was thinking we'd make things even easier but all the modern crim needs to do is march down the local supermarket with a notepad anyway.
