Clutch & DMF replaced !!

Set off this morning to have clutch and dmf changed by a mate of jaspers but with
more than a little help from jasper himself . Needed to get to Accrington from Stoke
which was all motorway , managed to get to within a few hundred yards of garage and
it went bang , thrust bearing siezed and disintigrated started it in gear and crawled
last few hundred yards . Some 5 hrs later new everything including bottom engine mount
( welly will be pleased ) and running sweet as . Once again many thanks jasper for
organizing it all , Top man .

I enjoyed helping out with the job, I did quite a bit more than I should have, but I thought we got it done pretty quick.

I laid a ghost with that job....as it is a very similar clutch arrangement to the V6 that I had trouble with on Matt's car, I was very happy to get the bearing engaged into the clutch pressure plate only the second time of trying and the gearbox went in first time.

I hope you thawed out fairly soon.

Can't fault your timing there, Puggy Reckon you got your money's worth out of the clutch.

jasper & co did a grand job on mine a while back. Bit of a squeeze getting an estate in there, could be a tad warmer, but I'd recommend them to anyone

Thought you might have gone for a solid flywheel conversion, did you consider it?

Didn't consider a solid flywheel doggy , the dmf has lasted 10 years the last 3
of which the car has been re mapped so no complaints . With the rear engine
mount changed as well the drive home was very smooth . And yes very tight
with an estate and quite chilly

I think the DMF vs. solid flywheel debate stalled at "yes, they're much cheaper but they could break your gearbox"

What sort of state was it in, obviously falling apart or couldn't see what was wrong with it?

To be honest steve it could probably have been left on , but, it certainly
had more movement in it than the new one ,the resistance of the springs
were definately weaker than the new one so the new one was put on and
i shall be keeping the car a while longer

How did you get the release bearing engaged? Last time I did the job I used some thick coax cable round the fork, and pulled from the wheel arch, using a foot on the gearbox to push against...

It must drive a whole lot different now, I remember that just the engine mount was a huge difference - felt like a new car.

you were right welly makes a lot of difference very smooth and the mount was split right
through so i dedicate it to you ( you been telling me about it for long enough )

Yeah, we put mole grips on an old allen key with a broken end that fit in the square hole, yanked hard on it twice and it clicked in nicely....when I fitted the bearing to the fork I very lightly greased the spring clip, the bearing end, and the ring on the pressure plate.

And from what i have read since jasper cracked it with the grease trick . a must
do from what i read , learn something everyday
