Drivers side 4 way electric window switches

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Drivers side 4 way electric window switches

Post by easthams1958 »

No doubt everyone knows the problem with these switches and I was wondering if anyone had shelled out £4.99 to the guy on ebay who then sends out to you 14 sheets of A4 telling you how to fix them??? I took my old one apart the other day and there was nothing wrong with the electrics it was just the actual rocker switch that no longer touches the micro switch. I am now looking for another shot switch that I can raid bits off to make 1 out of 2. Very tempted to pay the £4.99 justs to see what you get???

Carefully take the switch apart and carefully apply contact cleaner or blow it out with one of those aerosol air cans, make sure there is no debris inside which causes the contact to stick/miss contact also check for damaged wiring where the loom goes through the door. Buying one off an old car is probably the luck of the draw as most people want £50 to £60 for a switch.

I got some "bearing blaster" - an aerosol we use on our rc cars to not just do bearings, but to clean other items as well, and dries out very quickly with small application of air.
I think i'll give that a go.

your right about luck of the draw I bought one off ebay 3 weeks ago and worked great until yesterday and up goes down and it sometime opens without me touching it and takes 3 or 4 attempts to open it in the 1st place

£160 from Peugeot for ne and disgusting that they should have manufactured the part for 7 years and never taken measures to improve the design. Only thing is if you buy a new one is you have 12 months guarantee whereas on ebay you have none and its LUCK OF THE DRAW>
