Im Here!
took just under 36 hours with ferries and a little rest time but 1355.4 miles later im in my new country, and its bloody snowing!
so first things first a set of winter tyres is needed if this snow is gonna last, the family reckon its going to clear in the next few days, but after the somewhat exciting last few miles through untreated roads if this snow is here for another couple of weeks then snow tyres are gonna be an essential.
The 406 did a fantastic job in shifting over 600kg of belongings and people 2168 kilometres, she didnt miss a beat and was as comfortable as you could hope for, for what was essentially a van.
got weighed at a friends weighbridge on the way off and the laden weight was a tad under 2000kg, now the wifes is a mere slip of a thing (all that cabbage you know) and im not but the sum total of all the PCs, TVs, Monitors, kitchen bits, clothes, and other stuff answered any questions i might have had about what a lowered 90 estate might look like
To those of you interested in the fuel consumption for a well loaded 90 hdi estate on a fairly long run..................... 57.7mpg over the full distance of 1355.4 miles:D
it would have been much higher except for that damn Germany, the Auto Bahns cost me about 10 mpg over the whole trip but conversely i did manage the width of Germany in a little under 5 hours with 2 stops for food and "waste management" and a little roadworks but when the chance of a good run is there and you just want to get where your going as soon as possible, it seems rude not to cruise at the highest possible safe speed your vehicle can do, obviously only in the de restricted areas , but as i said this cost me a bloody fortune in the fuel department, the MFD was telling me the instant consumption was running around the 28mpg when cruising at that speed, and the braking distances had to be seriously re-thought
When i entered germany my overall consumption was running at about 67mpg over about 725 miles, after a fill up in Belgium, then realising that i had put the millers (fuel additive/injector cleaner) back where it lives in the side storage compartment in the boot and loaded the car to the roof

the 406 had to live with just standard diesel for the run through Germany so a combination of this and the speed really ruined the hypermiling, but im headed back in the next couple of weeks for another car full of bits and pieces and next time im not going to do the Bahns at quite the same pace so hopefully i can get my consumption for the journey down to a decent number.
Overall though i was very impressed with the HDIs behaviour for the trip
overall consumption for the trip was 105.7 litres @ an average of about £1.04 per litre giving a fuel cost £109.93p add that to the ferry at £17 it means i managed to get 2 people, 1 car and nearly half a ton of belongings to Poland for £126.93p, you would struggle to fly for that, never mind the lack of car and belongings
I have some pics that i will try and post up later but im on the worlds slowest connection at the moment and i dont want to try uploading to photobucket till i get mine sorted out (connection that is) the consumption through the first bit of the trip was phenomenal at 72.5mpg over 300 miles i just had to take a few pictures of the MFD readout

I think thats got to be my best run on the hypermiling so far considering as i said the car was fully loaded and it was on british motorways so not really renowned for their smooth ebb and flow of traffic. If i had kept that up i would have only had to pay out £104.49p for the whole trip
now that ive typed that and worked out that the autobahns only cost me about 20 quid to play on im not that bothered about the lowered MPG figure

(but the yorkshireman inside me is screaming out about the frivolous waste of money )
So thanks again everybody for the cool messages and Hello from the newest Polish member
