exhaust query question please

Post by no2lurch »

i have an exhaust question and i'm hoping someone can help draw from their general 406 knowledge...

i have a 2.2 406 sri estate and the exhaust needs replacing.

is this models 2 rear most exhaust sections the same as the 3.0 v6 406s?

A quick use of the search function reveals:
A bit of digging around, and officially the back box is unique to the 2.2 saloon (part 1726SC). The centre section however, you can use from a saloon, estate or coupe with either the 2.2 engine or the later 210BHP V6 (ES9J4S) as they all use the same part (1717J2)

If the centre section's the same then I can't see why the ES9J4S saloon back box won't be fine. I imagine the factory difference would just be down to small position changes in the internal layout for noise reduction

I have just been through this nightmare with my 2.2 sri petrol est. No exhaust maker list it. However my friendly local exhaust supplier did some digging and found out the oe exhaust is made by walkers exhausts and any walker distributer should be able to supply it. (euro car parts £97 + vat next day delivery) Mine here in cardiff from my supplier came in at £89 inc. There is apparantly another manufacturer working on supplying this exhaust but will be another 6mts or so but will be cheaper. Apparantly the coupe centre exhaust has the hanging bracket in the wrong place but the back box (3.0 litre) would be ok. The 2.0 litre has a smaller bore pipe which could lead to problems joining it to the cat.
Hope this is of help to you.
