Newbie Cooking with Gas

Post by Centurion »

Just purchased a 'R' reg 406 V6 saloon that has an Emmegas LPG conversion. Unfortunatly there are no user instructions, (can't contact the previous owner without the help of a Medium) and the question is this! Do I start from cold on petrol and switch to gas after warm up ( SOP at this time ) or is starting on gas a viable option ? I seem to remember being told that there could be problems when starting on gas during warm up, but that was a fair while ago and I have downed a few sherberts since then. If there are any more Gas cookers out there who can help I would be very greatful.

Hi there. That actually sounds like the precautions for running on chip oil. What about contacting this Emmagas direct for instructions?

Hi there I used run an old Rangey on LPG about 8 years ago and always started that on Petrol then swapped over to gas after initial warm up, but that was back in the infancy of LPG.

Cant hurt it tho can it, like Steve says give the manufacturer a call always the safest bet :supafrisk: :supafrisk:

I'm a courier, and a few years back we had a LDV400 with a turbo diesel engine that was a bit poorly.

Someone suggested we put a V8 in it and run it on LPG
The diesel did 18mpg, and we were told we could expect 14mpg out of the V8, so with half price fuel equated to 28mpg compared to 18

Anyway it only did 9mpg, but it sure did put a smile on my face :D :D :D :D :D
Half the time I forgot to put the stereo on as i'd be listening to the V8 roar insted :cheesy:

Anyway, back on topic
We were told to start it on petrol first and then swap over to gas as it wouldn't like starting on LPG.
Well, I tried it a few times and didn't mind starting on gas, so didn't bother with petrol.
However on the carb'd V8, if you don't have petrol in the float bowls they tend to stick and then it won't run on petrol.

I'm sure the technology has moved on, and an injection car probably won't suffer like the V8 did, but i'd be inclined to start it on petrol from time to time, butit sure won't hurt to start it on gas.

Thanks for the advice fellas I managed to find a guy who fits these units and they start on petrol and automatically transfer to gas when a rev / temp range is reached. Mind you by the time I found this guy I had figured it out, but its nice to be a confirmed clever Bas***d. Next question, does anyone know if the V6 ES9J4 engine was ever fitted to any other make of car as I hav'nt yet managed to find a manual refering to the V6?
