That volcano & flight disruption
Does anyone share the view that the air travel industry are being just a little over-cautious?

Re: That volcano & flight disruption
We live in a Health & Safety-gone-mad kinda world, having said that would you be happy sat on a plane flying through 'it' ?? it's a case of the unknown and if we can't manage the risk then it's a no-go
Wasn't there a British Airways flight in the 80's which flew *right through* the thick ash cloud and the Silica formed molten lumps and wrecked the engine (still landed it though
).
It is how it is I suppose with chuff all we can do about it
Has anybody else noticed a darkish dust about there motah? I have. Apparently there is a 'dust' in the air, the Valleting boys are having sleepless nights about it because it seems volcanic dust is more abrasive than sand dust......

Re: That volcano & flight disruption
This volcano business is causing me lost bloody sleep, i had a friend flying out on thursday morning to share the drive back to blighty with me, well its looking like i will be doing the 2000km on my own now doesn't it!
I had planned it well allowing us time to "relax" in Holland on the way through and now its looking like i will be needing that time to get some shut eye, still i have a 22 hour window to do a 16 hour drive so ive got 6 hours in hand for sleep, traffic and general f&ck ups along the way, i should be fine, a 24 pack of Red Bullski ,200 Marlborough lights and 5 bags of Haribo Star mix and i will be right
So in answer to the original post, yes i think its over the top but then i wouldnt want to be on the first flight through the cloud
Im not a nervous flyer but i think on that particular flight i might just be cacking it

If I recall, 4 engines were wrecked and the pilot had to glide it for a landing.Welly wrote:We live in a Health & Safety-gone-mad kinda world, having said that would you be happy sat on a plane flying through 'it' ?? it's a case of the unknown and if we can't manage the risk then it's a no-go![]()

I hate flying as is, never mind a 737/747 being used as a glider

Yes the girlfriend noticed it, complained that my car was bogging. Covered in fine brownish dust. As if the paintwork wasn't bad enough.Has anybody else noticed a darkish dust about there motah? In other news, Iceland took our cash and gave us ash.
Kerry Katona heard about a blast at Iceland and was spotted looking for frozen pizzas falling from the sky.
Northern Ireland rock band "Ash" must have a really large plane - all over aircraft are grounded because they are in the air....

You wouldn't catch me in a plane right now, and I'm going to be checking/changing my cars' air filters as soon as the dust goes... As it is I was out walking in the countryside for some hours on Saturday, marvelling at how blue the sky was without any vapour trails spoiling it. Later that night I was having trouble swallowing stuff, my nose was streaming, I was coughing my guts up, my eyes were a mess and my lungs were screaming... Feel like right crap now

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: That volcano & flight disruption
Its not as bad over here in Poland i think the European wide flight ban is an over reaction but for you guys right under it then, yeah its probably about right but i bet there is a whole lot more scientific research going to paid for by the airlines into this and other natural phenomena that can cripple an industry so easily.
Still Pi$$ed at the ban tho, its a bloody long way single crewed

Drove the wife up to that London today, she was most amused by the M25 signs reading "Heathrow Airport Closed". Then of course we realised there was not a single plane in the sky, and that weirded me the hell out.
And yes, my jar of jam is nice and dusty but then I've done a few hundred or so on the motorway since I last cleaned it. Still, at least I got all the seagull sh*t off it.

Bring on the zombies
Tractors flying? Ha!! More crawling everywhere at 15kmh blocking roads and spraying mud everywhere. All I can hear right now is ancient tractors farting around.

Sounds like that's Matt unfortunatelyWelly wrote:What the tractors are still allowed to fly over?

I am on the Asthma warning too, sad but true, I have the lungs of a 8 year old girl
maybe if i knocked the marly lights on the head it might improve
was passing warsaw airport today, its so weird for there not to be the constant drone of planes overhead.
i bet getting into dunkirk is going to be an absolute nightmare on the run back
