Temperature sensor in the mirror
Hello, I noticed yesterday as I was freezing in the british spring, that my outside temperature on the mfd was showing as 24 degress C! I knew this to be completely incorrect and thought it must have just been sat in a hot spot. On driving around a bit, it went down to 22, then jumped to 19, then back up to 24 again, all within the space of a few minutes. It did the same again today on the way to work.
Would the problem be with the sensor in the mirror, or is there somewhere else I can look and fiddle around with? I also assume this reading incorrectly wont have any negative effect on the running of the car?
It is 1999 D9 with climate control, if that matters.
Thanks.

Re: Temperature sensor in the mirror
Most likely the mirror. But yesterday was a warmish day all over the UK and Ireland. If it went down to 19, thats about accurate. When the car is in a hot place for a long time it always over reads. I dont think its faulty. Mine was reading 18-21 yesterday

In Ireland?! I think yours is faulty too!eoin27 wrote: Mine was reading 18-21 yesterday

I don't think mine is right to be honest, since it was still reading 24 degrees again this morning at 7 am, overcast and cold to me! The weather forecast for my area says there will be highs of 9 degrees today!
I will keep an eye on it. Maybe I am being paranoid.

Oh really? Then it is faulty. They're not too expensive new from the dealer.
Ya the weekend in Dublin was fantastic. I got some sunburn too!!!

Mine has been reading like 2 or 3 degrees when I start the car, even had a frost warning last week but after about 10-15 seconds it finds the correct temperature.. or what I think is the correct temperature.. around 10-12 degrees

This must be a trend, I had 24c last night in balmy Surrey! (not)
The sensor is pretty cheap, when I replace mine I'll do a "HowTo".

I could see the little "nub" of the sensor sticking out the bottom of the wing mirror and gave it a wiggle, but no changes so, thinks it's on its way out.
Thanks all.

Re: Temperature sensor in the mirror
I remember around the first time I got a 406, I got the ICE ALERT message on the screen. I originally thought there was some reciever on the car that got local weather reports.
