Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
for me i need to replace the OS wingmirror, OS brake light bulb has gone, needs a service, due tax next month, MOT due next month, and a £60 speeding fine to pay. all of this totalling about £300. not good, considering my student status and therefore lack of funds.

Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
My passenger-side electric window stopped working (trying to find an auto electrician who isn't a money-grabbing bastard - £75 + vat per hour, just for diagnosis, never mind the cost of repairs!)
The external temperature sensor doesn't work (hasn't shown anything other than "-- C" for months, but did previously work for a few weeks. Has never been working consistently since I got the car).
And the exhaust (eggsauce) is leaky.
Other than that, it's perfect!

Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
Fuel filler cap doesnt spring open, putting fuel in is a 2 man operation. Paint lifting off the bonnet - the recent cold spell has made the matter 10x worse, sometimes the CD player decides not to work, the wee clip/button to adjust the drivers headrest is broken, engine cover clips missing, lettering missing from front wing - on one side im driving a 406 L and on the other I'm driving a 406 X....This is all that springs to mind, generally all cosmetic things. Mechanically the car is pretty sound although it could probably do with an oil change for peace of mind

The main thing wrong with my car is that the cylinderhead is sat on the kitchen table in bits, i've found the engine doesnt run too well without a head fitted

There is a fix for the fuel cap, pull up the hinge pin on the flap and fit a clothes peg spring, then push down the hinge pin...as you close the door you put spring tension on the fuel cap lid so that as you pull the lever the lid opens.......http://i638.photobucket.com/albums/uu10 ... 406004.jpg
Thanks to the inventor of the fix.
Sorry Welly, didn't see your post, but the pic is there.
As for the engine cover, unscrew the broken mountings and replace them with some Renault exhaust mountings, ones with 6mm bolts at either end of the rubber bobbin, then screw on some 6mm nuts and large washers.
Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
In last few weeks:
Had the heater fan wires fuse together where the connector block fell apart. Luckily only blew the 50a fuse, but cost me £40 to get it rewired back up
Brakes went a bit suspect, and problem was yokes had seized up, so had to have new discs, pads, and yokes - upon inspection, road spring also snapped, so had 2 new front springs, and decided at same time to change the drop links whilst the struts were out.
I remember when the cambelt was done, the guy who did it said the bottom pulley was suspect, but I just ignored it ....that was until I read up on here horror stories of pulley failure, so bought a new one form the stelaers but kicked them in sacks for 20% discount.
The car when I bought it never had the front offside wheel arch liner, and as that was the side you have to have the liner out to do the pulley, I bought a new liner for there so could be fitted after doing the pulley. New auxiliarry belt was real PITA to refit though.
This week, put new bulb in clock - been blown since I had car - 2 new bulbs in MFD
Also fixed fuel filler cap with a trim clip bent out to 45 degrees and screwed into lower mounting point - took all of 2 mins if that
Jobs that need doing:
Rear sunblind need fixing - not going to pay £50 for new one, so going to pick up some clips from spew and q and try that way.
Exhaust is blowing - bought new fannymold gasket, but job on back burner at mo.
Leather has been fitted into rear about a week ago, but awaiting to see if can get a hacked ecu rather than hard wiring seats as can't find info on how to do that?
B pillar decals need sorting as cracked and peeling
Need some bulbs in dash, but having some aluminium dash rings for b'day in a weeks time so waiting till then - not sure whether to have clocks scanned whilst out and go for indiglo dash?
Bulb required in rear number light - have bulbs, just not fancied getting down to do it in this weather

Thanks for the tips guys, the clothes peg trick is the kinda fix I love. Its simple and it works. Will get a look at it over the weekendWelly wrote:CountryPug wrote:Fuel filler cap doesnt spring open, putting fuel in is a 2 man operation

Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
I've got a few new additions
Leak from top PAS pipe
Knocking from front N/S, drop links again or ARB bushes at a guess
Clutch getting worse
Rear tyres are wearing on shoulders, check rear links for play & get rear wheels aligned, replace rear O/S tyre

Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
Time to update I guess
Need to sort the above within the next month, before a trip to southern France (GOT to get dad's tubby out the garage quickly!):
1. High pressure PAS pipe needs changing
2. Top engine mount needs changing
3. Need new front tyres
4. Front brake discs needed
5. Front brake pads will need sanding down to match the new discs (not paying another £90 for new ones!). Also they're rubbing in the callipers so they need filing down
6. Aircon re-gas (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LET IT HOLD THE GAS! I don't want it back drained!!!)
Then there's the stuff I've needed to look at for yonks:
7. Sump needs re-sealing
8. Passenger door lock sticks. Going to have to take off the door card and lube it up properly
9. Wing mirror glass needs replacing with ones with working heating elements
10. Wing mirrors want replacing with ones that fold in properly
11. Shocks/springs could do with being replaced
12. Foglamp lens is somewhat non-existent
13. Bodywork could do with some touch-up paint, especially the rear bumper
14. Lower air intake pipe needs replacement
15. Both bottom balljoints need replacing
16. Track rod arms could do with being replaced
17. Should probably replace the ECU CTS, the IAT and O2 sensors as a matter of service (it has got 10 years and 180k on the clock!)
18. New spark plugs (need to get a new inlet manifold gasket for that
)
Don't get me started on the Golf...

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: What's wrong with your Pug?
- Handbrake needs tightened
- Need to replace lower door sill seals on both sides
- Front foglight needs replaced (have one but not sure how I will get at it without taking bumper off)
- COM2000 needs replaced (have one but not brave enough to attempt yet)
- Rust on edges of nearside doors. Treated and tried to repaint, Peugeots KMWC paint does not match, paintjob looks like Stevie Wonders paintshop.
- As above, paintwork on nearside is crap due to not being able to find matching paint even with the exact paintcode
- Hesitation between 1500-1800rpm
- Gearbox is like stirring coal at times
- Couple of dings in the bodywork
- Alloys are kerbed to heck
- Drivers side wind deflector rattles sometimes
- Drivers electric window takes a couple of attempts to lower sometimes
- Burn mark on inside rear offside doorcard
- Timing belt due
- Missing "r" of "Rapier" - "Rapie"
- MOT in a months time
Apart from that it is a cracking car!
Edit:
Actually, reviewing the list, anyone want to buy a 406?.... :s

Good job the 'i' isn't missing instead.
Under each foggy, as the bumper returns underneath, there's a kind of inspection hatch held on with 4x torq? torque? screws. I fink this is where you attack the foggies from.
