Problem with uneven engine whilst driving at around 2000 rpm

Post by ukguy »

Hi all, I hope you can help me.

I have a 2001 (Y plate) 2.0 406 GLX (Petrol).

Recently, when it is warm the engine misbehaves. It's a tricky issue to explain but let me try.

It accellerates really smoothly and well, it engine breaks smoothly too.

Buut, you know the spot where you are neight accelerating or decellerating? Just when you are hovering your foot on the pedal? The engine seems to be "jerky" making the ride feel stuttery. If i accellerate slightly it gets better. Accellerate a bit more, it stops happening. It does not always do this but it is 90% of the time - but only noticable when the engine has warmed up at about 2000 rpm

Idleing is pretty smooth, although it went through a period a couple of months ago at stalling when idling.

I've changed the spark plugs in a hope that would solve the problem. It hasn't.

I'm not an expert, but I should be able to have a go at fixing it myself as long as it'd reasonably simple, but I'd appreciate it if anyone has any ideas?

Thanks.

Welcome mate! :)
Have you checked the air filter, any splits in the hoses etc?
Also what's the condition of the coil pack?

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll have a look.

How can I tell what the condition of the coil pack is like? Anything to look out for specifically? I'm assuming this is the block I had to remove when i changed the plugs, yes?

Yep, that's the one :)
Look for any cracking or splits on the ends, push a plug into each connection & make sure it's a good tight fit :)
