SRi service questions

Post by no2lurch »

my 2.2 SRi estate is saying it needs its oil changing.

i have a few questions -

-how do i remove the under tray to access the filter?
-how do i reset the service indicator?
-how much of my 5/30 semi syntetic do i need?
-any special tools needed?
-do i need a conpression washer on the sump plug?

thanks in advance.

The undertray may have 10mm headed bolts holding it on or ratchet type screws that fall out if turned 90 degrees.
To reset the service indicator, press in the trip meter knob and turn on the ignition, it will count down from 10 to zero.
You should need about 4 litres of oil, but put 3 and a half in, start the engine until the oil light goes out/pressure rises then check the level, add as required.
You will need an oil filter wrench or a large pair of water pump pliers (pipe wrench).
You will need a sump washer.

Does a message appear on the screen asking you to chage the oil?

Id recommend getting it done by a mechanic if you've never done it before. If you take away what you pay for oil from the mechanic overall charge. Theres not a huuuge amount in the difference and you will save yourself a lot of grief.

how does the service light indicator work? i mean, does it count down a set amount of miles from the point of reset?

It counts down but I think that it calculates your miles left based on time as well as distance since the last service.

The spanner shows at exactly 12 months since you reset it, or at the mileage you set it at. You can tell it to count-down from 12000 or 10? 8? can't remember.

Well it says 20,000 now I reset the service warning indicator. That seems real high?

Perfectly normal, it will count down the miles to zero.
