Electric Mirror Memory

Post by FarmerPug »

I have a 2002 406 executive, and found that when i get into the car the mirrors move about doing their normal recall of the memory, but the passengers mirror just goes mad and moves to an extreme position usually top left, and keeps whizzing the mirror even though it can go further, i then have to wait for the motor to stop before i can adjust it back down but this is irritating and i would like to know why it does this, i have even saved the position of the mirror back into the memory and it still does this

The mirror may have been replaced in the past & had the non memory motor module fitted. If the ECU is receiving no sensor info it will be constantly trying to find its memory position until it times out.
Pop the glass off and check the plug; the memory type should have 8 pins going into it. In fact compare the left & right mirror internals; you'll see what I mean!

The mirror is original i know that, ive had the car for about 3 months now and this problem never occured before, ill take the glass off and check for a tight connection that sounds like a good start, how do i take the glass off the mirror without breaking it

Aim the mirror all the way up with the control, if you look at its base you'll see two metal prongs sticking down. Pop these inward with a small screwdriver & the glass will come off. Go easy cos you'll have to remove the demister cables from the mirror!

I have the answer!!!! Nah na na na na na na

The exact same thing happened on my coupe when I got it. The mirrors arent supposed to flap about when you start the car. I forget exactly how to access the plug in the saloon mirrors so bear with me....

The plug is loose on one or both mirrors and thats what is causing this. Get access to the plug and push it back into the socket and you're laughing.

You need to remove the plastic covering to get at the 3 screws holding on the mirror. Then just pull the mirror free and you should be able to get at the plug in the door. Im not 100% if you have to take the door card off or not
