Lost my keys

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Lost my keys

Post by hammerman »

Bad day today.Arrived at work to find some buggers had smashed all the windows on my digger.I wished they had set fire to it instead
In all the commotion of making calls & cleaning out the broken glass i lost my car/house keys.My wife did a 250 mile round trip to bring me the non remote spare key.
I`ve looked on Ebay & you can get new complete 2 button remotes inc key blank for around £17.But then theres finding somewhere to cut the key(i assume your normal key cut places cant cut them??)& then programming it to my car(2003 hdi)
My remote stopped working a few years ago & i could`nt re programme my self,as per my handbook,so had to get it done at a garage.
Is it all too much work, and should i just go straight to Peugeot??
I`ve used the search function but there are plenty on this topic, but no one seems to reply saying if its worked. :(

Well,i`ve started to find some off my keys on the crusher magnet,so now i know where i lost them
My local car spares shop can cut a new key for £7.Will ring up a few independent garages to see if they can program the key.If so,i will order a complete remote off ebay for £18.

Madness!! I think its £80 in the UK for a new remote key. I dont know if anyone on here has had success with the ebay option as it has come up quite often before on the forum

If you want everything working as it did before, you need to pay in excess of £100+vat to a dealer OR replace half of your car including locks ecus etc

Only dealers can code a new key to a car, and they do that after ordering it with an immobiliser transponder inside which matches your car. These cannot be re-coded.

Well,i spoke to a french independent garage this week, who have said they can code new keys/remotes to my car. They just need the code card(which i have). They said the non genuine remotes on ebay are fine to program to my car as they do them all the time.
So withe the cost of a new remote key,£27 ish,& £35 to re code, that will save me some money.
