Engine Management Light On?

Post by davidmartin »

Hi Guys,

I'm having a little problem with my newly aquired SRi-T

The Engine Management Light is intermittenly coming on.

I can't see it being anything other than a sensor as no odd noises, no loss of power, no overheating and no smoke.

Does anyone have any info on this? Has it happened to anyone else?

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks,

And Damn. I was hoping I could WD-40 a sensor and problem solved as I am pretty sure it is just that.
When the weather clears up here I will have a try of the Air Mass Sensor and see if that makes any kind of difference. Will let you know how it goes!

I had this on my HDi and was a vacuum pipe had come off towards the back of the engine compartment
Can't say that will be your problem, but can't hurt to look.
No point me being specific as mine's a diesel and yours is petrol.

Thanks for your help Plod.

I think it may be something to do with an air intake pipe being Duct Taped up and a bit of Damp Air is getting in as the problem has only been happening since it has been raining.

I will keep you posted when I have sorted the pipe.

Thanks again.

Hi guys,

I sorted the pipe that I thought was causing the problem.

When I took it off the car I noticed that there was a square of foam in the intake pipe (I don't know why it was there as the car has an air filter in it as well? Anyone, any ideas?). I removed that and have had a noticeable increase in performance.

EM Light still on, still no problems though, even though it is now boosting properly.

Chances are that you have solved the problem and just need the fault code clearing to put the light out.

That would have been stuck to the face of the air filter originally, mine has got it too.
