Hi - New old geezer on the block.

Hi Just bought a 406 110S on a 53 plate, can anyone tell me what the 'S' means, apart from white dials and lower profile tyres? Cheers

Hello John & welcome 8)

The S & SE were the freshened up 'run-out' versions, though Pug used the terminology on other models too. Somebody may correct this, but I think the SE was more or less top spec, having nearly all the toys of the executive, the S would be more of a mid-range equivalent. Parkers would no doubt give a better description.
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The S is like a freshened up version of an LX with the dials, 16's, grey dash inserts and such.

The SE has half levvers, auto-dim mirror, (not sure on elec seats), possibly 'folders', possibly rear sunblind, perhaps a JBL system.

Can you tell how knowledgeable we are on the later models?

On benefit of these run out models is the lower road tax band 8)

Yeah, that's pretty crap Eoin - you guys shouldn't be hit with that kind of wallet-burn.

I was a bit miffed though because the reminder form I had still had the old tax rate of £190 on it, but when I fed the reminder code into the government website they said the price would be £205 regardless whether I do it online, at the post office, or at the local DVLA office.

If your car was registered before 1st March 2001, the tax is determined by engine size. If your car was registered on or after 1st March 2001, the tax is determined by emissions. All explained here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Ow ... G_10012524

Mine is a V-reg 1.8l 16v fuel-injected petrol engine.

The government wants £205 for a year's tax on it.

Gits :(

Yeah but on the other hand I'm currently keeping a lazy eye open for a V6 coupe to add to the fleet. Before March '01, £205 pa, after March '01, £435 pa  . Guess what age I'm looking for

Not to mention the fewer headaches you'll have if you get a 2000/early 2001 coupe
