Oh, I think all D8s do that with the warranty start date. Tried my old one, yep.
Hmm, build code is 07815, Fri 3 Apr 1998

what are you using to decipher the build code if you don't mind me asking ?
I seem to recall there was a program / website that was giving bogus info

This:
http://toby.or.tv/build_col_eng2.html
I gather it's not 100% accurate but it gives my D9's build date as December '03 and I know it was first registered in early '04 (in Italy
)
Look at it this way, the car's already iffy with a 2000 plate on a car that just can't be that new, even if the build code jobbie is a month or so out that doesn't make much difference. If I were you I'd drop it like the glowing hot potato that it is before your fingers fall off.

i think its more the case that the owner doesn't know exactly what he's on about, and/or is glamming up the facts for a sale. if the Reg and Vin match and the car is legit then if bought cheaply enough it could be a good little deal
I find it funny though that he has a "well maintained car regardless of the cost" but then "doesn't know if the cambelt has been done" if in doubt I'd get it done
can't be any dodgier than the coupe i bought

The fact that the DVLA think it is a 406 Coupe would put me off.
That, and a D8 V6 on a W reg would likely be sitting in an airfield somewhere for a year or two.
