you need to get two long lenths of rubber fuel pipe and 4 clips to put in place of the hard plastic push fit ones, this will stop the air getting in and if it runs ok the pipe are your problem. i would'nt advise this as a permanant repair mind.

i hear what your saying but the pipes were all ok before the tank came out.the car started ok even when i picked it up.just idled a bit on the rough side.
if there was air somewhere how would i try and get it out? tried starting it on a hill pointing down etc.
ah i'll probably find out tomorrow.pissin me right off though.my faith in french cars is seriously dwindling

the plastic fuel pipes are crap, if the mechanic was a bit ruff with them he could of damaged the seals in the ends of the pipes when the tank was done,so you will never get rid of any air as they will keep letting it in, thats why i said try to bypass them will rubber pipe to see if they are at fault.if its not them it could be the mechanical pump on the engine as they can go at any time, or if someone keeps winding the engine over to try to get the air out insted of cracking the injectors open. :?

if the locking ring wasnt locked on properly and it was pulling air then by taking off the fuel cap and trying it would allow it to pull air as before.
you said it was fine before the new locking ring was fitted so i thought allow the tank the same air that it was pulling and see if it runs like that.

all fuel tanks have breathers, they dont work on vacuum, the pick up pipe on the sender sits at the bottom of the tank so air getting in or out of the tank at the sender o,ring seal wont mater, that seal is to stop fuel leaking out when its full,

I'd have thought if there was anything wrong with the pipes it would be leaking diesel everywhere :? I'm not convinced with jamjar's suggestion either, if the vent was blocked surely it wouldn't stop it starting, it would build a vacuum when it was actually running and then stall. Still, it's a weird one and anything's worth a try.

well im still none the wiser.
went to mechanics today.he had the fuel filter off& told me it was getting fuel ok through both pipes i think.said that fuel was going into the injectors also.
he then mentioned that he had a felling that it could be the sensor to blame.think he's on about the crankshaft-sensor on its way out.but wouldnt that just fail completely? but at the same time, when he sprayed something into air intake it roared into life instead of failing to catch.
any guesses etc?
if it was a faulty/duff sensor, would a diagnostics show whats wrong?

yes it would show the fault codes. try spraying wd40 around the inlet manifold where it attaches to the engine (when its ticking over) and if the revs pick up the inlet manifold gasket is at fault.

craig he had a can o brake cleaner i think.positive he said that the second he sprayed that into the air intake(im sure thats where he sprayed it),it would fire up.this is drivin me mad. was beginning to think silly things like maybe he's contaminated the diesel or something. yesterday it was idling funny when i was sitting at the lights/junctions,& when i was starting it,it'd take ages before finally spluttering into life

think someone already asked that 1.and someone said it wouldnt matter or something.think im gonna have too end up gettin a diagnostics.
if the pipes were on the wrong way round surely he wouldnt be getting any fuel at the filter pipes.

d'oh should have read that one, another silly question for you, has disturbing the tank shifted some cack and blocked the fuel filter.
