Got Kindles for both Mrs Doggy's and eldest daughter's birthdays recently, they're both delighted with them & from what little I've seen of them they are easy to read.
So far as I could tell, there are 3 versions @ £89, £109 & £139 respectively. The top two have keyboards, (which no-ones needed yet), the most expensive only adds the ability to download stuff via 3G, so I went for the middle one. Got em via Tesco Direct, who had stock, (Amazon didn't), got an extra £10 off, free in-store collection.
HTH
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
I have an ipad and while it is fine for reading the odd website and the sunday papers I wouldn't want to read a book on it.
eInk is a static display technology designed specifically for this purpose. The fact its is static and not back lit makes it as easy to read as paper with none of the eye strain associated with LCD's.
Don''t expect to make a saving buying your books in digital form, and also remember that you cant just 'lend it to a friend' / share it with the family without some account jiggery pokery and them having their own e reader.
The kindle is a very good buy and at £89 Amazon lose money on it (making it back on the book sales) having said that though I have still refused to move to them as i prefer the feel of a real book and being able to hand it around.
