One of our guys had a 307 HDi 110 as a company car around 2003/4 & averaged 42 mpg on his 60-odd miles each way daily commute. It went pretty well & was roomy, but not really economical

2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

The 307 isn't much of a drivers car.
I'd be looking for a TDCI Focus or even a Shitroen C5 with the 2.0 HDI unit
