You might be on a company policy but you still may not be allowed to drive your dads van legally.....

You might find that unless it is for works purposes you could get into trouble. Or that the car has to be registered to the works policy for you to drive it.

With my work, I am allowed to drive the quads that come in for servicing and repairs on the road - only for testing purposes. But I cant go off driving someone elses car unless I can prove that its for a work purpose or a company car....

Do like what you are saying Nigel 8)

I think my favourite car I had, was my Opel Manta
Converted an Astra 16v to run RWD with twin 48 DCOE webbers, 2.5" custom manifold, going into an Ashley Competition Zorst
Manta 400 bodykit, 400 Bonnet, Revolution wheels, Tarox discs, uprated calipers, Bilstein shockers

180BHP and could still return 50mpg

Handled brilliant, but could still get the arse out if you wanted to, but so predictable if you did

However I think I was, shall I say too immature to handle it ultimately when I had it, and sold it before I lost my licence
Would love to have it now though :cheesy:

That Vauxhall C20XE engine was fantastic. I couldn't believe my Cavalier GSi could be so damn quick yet still give me 25mpg getting thrashed around town. My 1.8 Mondeo was 15 years newer & could match the fuel consumption, but could never hold a candle to the performance of the Cav.

No. Not for me.
I get more pleasure out of trundling round in comfort while using as little fuel as possible.

However, sometimes I think it would be fun to blow £500 on a 328 or XJ or 406 V6 an run it for a couple of months till it drops -- just to get it out of my system.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

haha you'd have to rag a 406 v6 a lot longer than a couple of months to kill it
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

But remember - todays hire car is tomorrows ex-demonstrator on the dealer's forecourt.

I think james may made a good point about this on sundays top gear the fiat panda is great fun but yet its not a very fast car.
Though sitting in something like a bmw 740i with the sound of a V8 and smoke coming from the rear tyres also has its appeal.

well somehow May got it right, but it's not being on the limit that makes a car fun, imho. That is... restrictive.
It has more to do with the handling, the steering, the lightness... If a car's limit brings to marked understeer, it becomes more annoying than fun. My dad's c3 was appalling to drive, while my mum's 106 was much more fun. The 106 limit was much higher than the c3s.

I suppose yu mean the old clio. The new clio's steering is so light a baby could use it, it is as artificial as Pamela Anderson's breasts.
