It might fit a 2.2 - not sure. Even if it does, you'll need to cut off your existing cat and weld it to this pipe.

Unless you ask the exhaust place to do it for you.. like lozz says, you don't need a cat on diesels.

You weirdo.
I haven't slept for 3 long nights.... I'm going to rest my beautiful head on my pillow knowing that soon my drive will have two absolutely stunning 406 estates on it... :D No room for visitors now   I'm now drawing up a plan of which one goes where - this is thrilling stuff! :D

ithink youve got a bargain there at that price,

it will pay for it self intime, Thus -comparing petrol to diesel running costs,
Many thanks Lozz!
I also think I have an absolute bargain, granted it needs the exhaust seeing to and it will need a new bonnet at the very least - but at that price, an absolute steal for top of the dogs knackers gadgets inside... I can't wait to play with it all :D

I know I don't need a cat but the silly cow the other end reckoned the Cat was INSIDE the flexi pipe?

It's not inside the flexi but it's attached to the same pipe as the flexi part of the same piece - hence the welding requirement.

The cat is the most expensive part,
so if your not fussed about having one fitted, id just go to your local zorst place and have asystem made up
Most places shouid have the Abilty to weld-make up a system, they shouid be able to get the parts/materials in cheaper than anywhere else,

Might be worth going to an exhaust fabricator and having a turbo back straight through system with just a small back box like I have on my Mondeo.
Not at all loud but does make a nice grumble when you put your foot down! Probably cost you ~£300 with a full lifetime warrenty.

I always thought that since the new MOT rules came into place that DIesels needed a visible CAT. I discussed it with the mechanic I use who is also an MOT tester and we had a read up on it and it says that only Ignition combustion engines need a visible cat!

I still don't see why that flexi pipe would cost £350?!

Tbh. iwouid hold on until you get the car,
have alook under it first before ordering parts, there might be sections on the car that can be re-used,
going off the ebay description its been look after,so whats to say the back box etc, might be new-ish and youd be throwing money away,

Remeber to instruct the exhaust fitter, that you want the cat back theyl keep it otherwise and make good money they have there sources
for selling on cats etc, crafty if you ask me, :frown:

good luck with the car looks like you got a bargain, regarding the cat you don't need one for a mot at this current time but they may decide at anytime that if the car came with one it has to have one fitted, for that reason i've kept mine on the car and had the guts smashed out :)

Hi hun, you've done well there...

Regarding the flexipipe, the cat is part of it and the DPF ' chamber ' bolts to it, so you really need one to fit the DPF to, unless you want to replace the whole exhaust as a custom one for £350 ish ( CAT back is around £220 )

Maybe a friendly exhaust garage would do you a patch up on the down pipe and replace the bits for a reasonable amount, save your money for now and just get used to the car - maybe the money could be spent elsewhere once little niggles come to life....

You can still smash the crap out of the CAT and DPF when its off, even if the exhaust place thinks it won't run properly after, as we all know a man that can sort it out...
