The car tax disc are a waste o space anyway.
you can put them in the bin and old bill with onboard puter knows if car has rent.

ive heard on the grapevine.the insurers are going back to old system where it used to be let me have alook at driving licence before they will cover a car

these changes will pull a lot of people off the road that shouidnt be on the road..might make it cheaper for genuine ones in long run

Insurers win until the government gets its sh*t together and offers basic 3rd-party-only insurance to new drivers at a low flat rate, and makes it illegal to charge different insurance rates to people based on their job title irrespective of whether you actually use the car you're insuring for work purposes (other than commuting) or not. But that won't happen either, also because bastards.

What I mean is - 17 to 21-year-olds get a low flat-rate insurance policy that provides third party cover only. This would mean if they hit someone else, the young person's car would not be covered by that policy, but the other party's car would be repaired.

This would provide genuine competition from the commercial insurers who rake in *SHITLOADS* of money at the moment from young drivers simply because they *CAN* charge whateverthefuck they want. If the government provides a low-cost way of providing young drivers a legal means of getting on the road, then you know everyone will flock towards that, meaning they will have to put their prices down.

The way it is at the moment, the insurers have a license to print money - my suggestion kicks the bastard insurers squarely in the bollocks.

One rationale for a high car tax is that it discourages people who do low mileage. However, that might affect sales of small Japanese cars...

And this silly this business of not being allowed to have a car that's taxed but not insured is really unhelpful.

just look around you.you will sees thems driving big motors ..they aint happy with alittle runaround car they want big motors

This is why the government also needs to state that the area you're in should only affect car insurance premiums based on crime rates and flooding incidents, rather than on the number of other claims made in that postcode.

Not all young drivers are spoilt buggers, as you well know; sure there's spoilt creeps but most young people who have prangs are just inexperienced rather than speeders. I had a minor bump the first week I had a car (aged 27!) but haven't had any at-fault ever since (thankfully).

My stepson is learning to drive at the moment, aged nearly 20, and I'm *not* looking forward to trying to get him insured. No wonder so many go uninsured when it can cost a couple of grand for the insurance, and the car less than half of that in the first place!

OK, so my suggestion won't fix it for everyone, everywhere (because of arseholes only interested in themselves and not giving a flying french connection about anyone else) but it should at least help bring down the cost of insurance for new drivers and non-arseholes. Right?

Hows this for insurance. My 2nd car at 17 was a modified 1986 Misti Galant VR4 (2ltr turbo awd rally spec car) insurance for the year? $1000nzd. A couple of years later when I decided I needed to slow down a bit 1995 Mitsi Diamante 2.5ltr v6 $600. My first car in England an N reg 316i £1000:shock: and now 4yrs later my 307 is £600.
I think its about time they did away with the phyiscal tax disk as the plods all use computer checks anyway. The blighters set up an NPR van not far from where I live every now and then and by the time you get from the van to a layby about a mile down the road they know weather youre taxed, motd and insured and if not you get waved into the layby.

Ollie - that's the difference here in the UK we get ripped off, it's very short-sighted all round as I believe it is preventing young people from getting up from their X-Boxes and doing work.

Highlander - I'm not sure if I'm reading this right or not (so please correct me if I'm wrong) but you appear to harbor a slight bitterness towards the insurance industry? would you like to tell us more about it?
