The stick is deffinitely naff by comparisson. But the 406 bonnet is much larger and heavier than the 407 one.

More than anything the styling gives poor visibility of your 4 corners. You can't see the end of the 406's boot at all from any of the mirrors or even by looking -- that's why my mother forbade my father from getting one! It's even worse on the 407 -- parking sensors are a must! And I'm still very cautious about where the front passenger side corner is. I don't mind being sat back with the vast expanse of dash in front of me, I quite like it.

I believe the boot is smaller on the 407. In practice it's still full of rubbish  Not much difference really. Don't know about the estates.

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

Speaking of boots and parking sensors when I got my 2.2 I seriously considered removing the boot spoiler as it looked a bit boy racerish with the spoiler, 17" wheels, brembo's and stainless exhaust.
Pretty soon tho I had to reverse into a parking space and low and behold I could actually judge where the boot finished!

I personally think they're pretty pointless for actually improving stability at speed but bloody handy for parking :D

Not that this helps answer the 406 or 407 question in any way shape or form

I was told peugeot had to replace the gas struts for the ncap rating, something about they could injure the pedestrian if they landed on the bonnet, dunno if thats anywhere near true tho.
Where does the like of Honestjohn get there info from ?? And does anyone know anyone who's ever been asked ?/
Our very own Turbolag did a survey on 407's reliability on another forum and it was all positive, i'll see if i can find it
